First REAL Xbox 360 Vs. Playstation 3 Comparision

Ok, you win, its more than a tweak.

How would a 360 dev get a feel for ANYTHING, considering they had no Xenon (as opposed to the ps3 alpha which at least had the Cell), and no Xenos (for which there is no comparable part, again as opposed to the PS3 alpha which has the RSX and possibly a comparable PC part as well in the shape of the 7800).

Its cool our versions of "radically different" are, umm, different. At the end of the day, I don't give a damn, I just want my games in HD and jaggieless.

With the assumption that 7800 is comparable with the RSX?

The Cell CPU in the current PS3 alpha kits can only communicate with the Geforce 7800 at ~2GB/s compared with the anticipated total bandwidth of 35GB/s.How's that for a comparison. With that speed in place you'll have something nearer to Xenos' edram to GPU effective speed.

Aside from the better HDR lighting,if you compare the Xenos's pics with the PS3's you'll notice that the Xbox360 games will pretty much have smooth textures which gives you the unnatural feel.Another game example you'll see this will be Ninety-Nine Nights. The characters' faces look pale like the undead. There's no difference(almost unnoticeable) between the two consoles .It's just that AA is free for the Xenos with its edram.

I guess this would be one of the main differences you'll see in most Xbox360 first gen games when you compare them with the PS3 ones.

they will look near identical come release imo,

fact they look different in places right now is more down to development time on each platform.

So I guess the title should have read "REAL flawed", instead of just "REAL". I get it now! We are in debt to the OP for bringing this in-depth research to our eyes.

It looks like the PS3 has better HDR lighting.

The X360 has a more realistic/gritty look compared to the plastic-like finish the PS3 has on its textures. Similar to what I've noticed on Nvidia/ATI PC graphics cards. I prefer the former than the latter.

The pictures look like the X360 version has smoother edges compared to the PS3 but upon viewing the footage the jaggies aren't noticable on the PS3 version. BUt it could be due to my media decoder which automatically smooths out the viewed footage.

Lastly, the motion blur on the PS3 seems better.

I can't use the edit function so i'll just make another post :(

Just wanted to add...

As far as I can see, Both have about the same amount of geometry.

It's the opposite. If you look at the buildings the Xbox360's texture looks smooth but it's too smooth and unrealistic. On the other hand the PS3's has a more refine and real.

from what i can see...

the 360 doesn't have the plastic-like shine on the buildings...

it has a matte-like finish...

which is what concrete would look like...

Which I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest isn't actually a hardware difference between machines seeing both use SM3.0 shaders and that's what makes for the different shading styles. Trying to analyse one game for a hardware comparison is daft. Just kick back, relax, and wait for a good chunk of games to appear on the machines (as has been mentioned on the forum lots of times) before trying to see where one machine has an advantage or not.

How can you call this a "REAL" comparison. Both these games aren't complete, thus suggesting that there's a possibility that they may be at different stages. I would imagine that these guys would concentrate more on the X360 version, if it's being released first(?).

If you really must have a comparison, then I'm afraid you'd have to wait for next year, or at least until both of these games are finished.

No not the concrete..if you look at the windows/the building paintworks it's supposed to have reflections when the sun is shinning towards them. The Xbox360's version doesn't seem to have this lighting effect except for the mechs gunshot pics.

Take a look at this 2 pics(from the first page) for comparison:

PS3

The Xbox360's has a cloudy weather setting but there is sunlight with shadows on the floor as proof. But why aren't the windows reflecting any?

Oh for god's sake can we stop judging games and consoles' capabilities from screenshots?!

The game isn't finished, the consoles aren't finished, and these are SCREENSHOTS!

I thought the screenshots fights ended when everyone saw that screenshots only tell a small part of the story with videogames!

We're also comparing Xbox 360 final hardware to PS3 evaluation kits, probably about 50% of the final hardware performance.

Can we please wait until the hardware and the games are actually finished before we start jumping to unfounded conclusions?

I think we need harder rules and more effective mods.
An interesting trend seems to be that from June/05 and forward there have been sooo many trolls and F anboys around here that its completely absurd.

Ah... i see what you're trying to say :)

I was only looking at the concrete and not the windows.

Oops :S

I thought that was the reason why this thread was made...

My bad.

Question: How many "fanbois" does it take to ruin a thread.
Answer: They're all at it, just read this thread

Okay, enuff lame jokes folks. My thread was not intended to be a flame war, I'm genuinely interested in what advantages each system will have. Like this gen; PS2 was better with particle effects and had more 60fps titles, Xbox had generally a better image quality, higher resolution and more complex shaders. My thread was premature, lets wait until both games are finished and then compare. :)

that's a bad comparison, you can tell by the angle of the shadows that there would be no direct light hitting the window in the xbox 360 shot

$#%^$$%

That is what I said on page #1.

It is clear: Time to shut down B3D's console forum... again
