First REAL Xbox 360 Vs. Playstation 3 Comparision

For those that don't know, this is the first multi-platform game that we are able to compare between the two systems. From Software has went on record that they are creating the two versions individually to take advantage of each system's strengths. Below are screens and videos of each version for you to compare.

Armored Core 4

Some things I noticed. The PS3 version appears to have better HDR lighting(or that may have to do with the time of the day in that version.) But the Xbox 360 version has significantly less jaggies, more geometry, and better textures and effects. Plus the 360 trailer looks tons more impressive than the PS3 version.

Now on to my question. I know RSX has higher precision HDR lighting and I'm sure the EDRAM for R500 is what's really helping the 360's lack of jaggies. But what other hardware differences can explain the disparities between the two versions?? Discuss.

They started at the same time. And the PS3 version was shown at TGS just like the Xbox 360 version.

Hmmm..maybe the little notion that you are comparing The PS3 ALPHA-kit version with the final XBOX360 devkit..?

It was the same as the PSM trailer shown a couple of months earlier, no?

Also, the guy in charge of it said that the two versions would be quite different.."he doesn't want to make the same game on both platforms" etc.

STOP THE PAIN!

1. The game is not released.
2. The games are obviously in different stages of development.
3. We are not comparing the same scene/time of day, etc for a relative comparison
4. RSX is not complete and have yet to receive final PS3 beta kits
5. Devs are just hunkering down on the 360
6. Cross platform games are going to look about the same anyhow.

#6 is important. Devs of cross platform games are going to have performance goals that fit nicely into the envolope of each system.

For all those people, all 2 of them, who were not aware of the fact that PS3 and Xbox 360 multiplatform games would look basically the same here you go. Outside of that... what is the point of this thread?

Ps- Have a nice day :D

Yeah, I mentioned that in my OP. But the 360 version is still graphically more impressive. People can say different stages in development, but they were started at the same time. If you check the trailers there is a distinct gap in quality between the two. Besides MGS4 this is the only "real-time" footage we've seen on PS3. And compared to the same game on 360, given the same time of development, it doesn't stack up. Maybe this whole "easier to develop for Xbox 360" holds some credence?

You're looking at them at two different points in time. You're looking at the game on PS3 from July and the game on Xbox from Sept.

I'm sure X360 is easier to dev for, but that's besides the point.

Plus everything everyone else has said.

Those two months sure make a difference huh?

What real-time game footage am I missing? Gundam?

We'd better hope so for X360 launch titles. In other words - absolutely. Much more impressive realtime demos were put together in the same or less time from scratch for PS3 at E3. And asides from time, there's the differences already pointed out to you..

Realtime footage and realtime game footage are two different things. MGS4, which you cite as an example, wasn't gameplay footage, so I'm guessing you were actually referring to the former. And there's been plenty of that.

That same footage was shown at TGS along side the Xbox 360 footage. Wouldn't they have shown updated PS3 footage if the game was so much improved?

Who mentioned gameplay? I stated realtime game footage, meaning not the CG target renders.

It's going to be very interesting to see how multiplatform titles pan out, this is just the first game for us to compare.

when mgs4 was on the alpha kit the kit seemed better than the final xbox kit though?

I'm sure they could have, but they didn't. All we know is that the PS3 footage was at least 2 months old, and TGS was the first time we saw the X360 version.

There's been plenty of that then, have a look around.

X360 beter have final hardware by now.Ps3 is far off.
Not even talking about software layer and dev environement.
Pointless thread of the day.

PS3 is not far off, it's slated to launch in the Spring. MGS4 was created on the same dev kit that this game was. The point is that a developer with the same amount of time with both machines, was able to get far better results on Xbox 360.

and they no requirement to launch in any given timeframe... they could drop the 360 title in december or do a worldwide multiplatform release in march/april... still what we've seen yet means nothing until both releases go gold...
