First Burnout 4 screenshot

Just come across it at PSX2 Central, interesting. Are EA using a standardized engine for all it's games? Because this looks exactly like The Godfather.

Criterion is the maker of Burnout in the first place. EA bought Criterion with everything they own; games, engines, etc

Sega has the Circle Shadowing Shaderâ„¢, EA had to develop their own shader, the Brown Shader...

The burnout serie is known for its vivid, "arcadish", colors. If this shot is real, I wonder why they'd change the art direction of their game.
Maybe they wanted to please to the GT crowd, by using "realistic" color...

may be it looks so grim due to it being:
- a work in progress
- new art direction
- being in a particular day time in a particular shadowy ally
- it is one of the twist extras in God Father- to drive with moders cars.
- simply faik

Reminds me of some 'next-gen' shots of gritty city streets posted here I think some months back, that were actually offline renders lifted, IIRC, from a 3D rendering site like CGTalk or 3DLuvr

Wasn't Burnout 4 supposed to come also on next gen xbox?
I remember the EA "rumour" of those coming games, of which BO4 was one and it was also coming to xbox, PS2 as well as xbox2.

Maybe this is from the xbox2 version.

To me, although it's very monochromatic, it ldoesn't look like this gen shot. It doesn't exactly look like next gen shot either, at least not what I expect next gen to look like at it's betterers. Maybe it's because it's a game that comes for this gen as well as next gen it doesn't look as impressive as next gen games are supposed to look.

The Xbox 2 version of Godfather has been dumped, unless something has changed very recently. I wouldn't be surprised if the next Burnout has been canned for the Xbox 2 also.

All the EA people I know have pretty much written off the next Xbox. Of course there will still be EA ports of some games, but the PS3 the overarching focus.

When did this all happen? or for the very least when did EA dump Xbox 2 support (with the exception of sports games)? That's scary stuff for MS if you ask me.

Very brown, looks like will be behind on the visual curve.

Yeah, god knows that dark allies deep in an iner-city aren't supposed to look brown by any means. I mean where are the rainbows and flowers?

BS.. you're still focusing on how things were at the beginning of this gen.. things are different now..even though you may want EA to stay close to sony.

Do you guys know each other?

Anyway, from what I've heard EA doesn't want Sony to win every console round, as it won't be good for the business. In other words they have less to bargain with if Sony is always in power.

I'm sure EA is not dumping the Xbox 2 completely, but it is clear from the friends I have who work there that the mood seems to be not really anti-xbox but more overwhelmingly focused on the PS3. This was a couple months ago, things may have changed since then. I'm not sure Godfather will ever make it to the shelves in out lifetime for any platform, so it may be of no consequence.

Doesn't look very next gen to me at all. The geometry detail isn't remarkably high, the textures are bleh, with no bump or normal mapping, and there's just some layers of fog with some light blooming. The car doesn't look any more detailed than what was in Burnout 3. If that was next gen, or even representative of next gen, I'd be really disappointed.

From what I've heard about the ps3 difficulties devs are running into, I think they'd have to be pretty focused.

I have multiple senior level friends working at EA. Their outlook for the next xbox was significantly more negative than they were back between the release of the PS2 and the first xbox hitting the shelves.
