Fallout 4 PC discussion

I know I'm risking there being justifiable laughter down the road, but I'm going to double down and say that I'll bet that we haven't seen the PC ultra settings yet. I think that console gamers won't be disappointed by what they get vs. what we've seen, and I think PC gamers will be able to push the sliders under the options menu and get noticeably more IQ. I think this goes to the new reality we live in; Long story short, developers of AAA titles benefit from consoles being similar to PC's, but, wow, do you ever have to be careful as to how you market the game. Console gamers need to feel they aren't missing out on anything significant, and PC gamers need to think their hardware does empower important benefits.
You can stagger the releases, or you can carefully manage expectations. Edit: or both! :)

Since it's supposedly PC exlusive I would assume marketing shots are on ultra settings...

What is PC exclusive? Fallout 4 is not PC exclusive it just isn't coming to the old consoles.

Yeah, my initial impressions of this game were corrent. It's gamebryo (heh, they called it 2nd generation whatever version Skyrim used) jank all over again. Ugly models, ugly animations and beautiful environments. Heck, that VATS is so much like Fallout 3 (and New Vegas) that probably wouldn't be able to say if some gibshows are from this or last gen. Basebuilding is cool, but when you turn it to 2nd tier tower defence (like in Assassin's Creed Revelations) game... yeah... I'd like to skip it thank you very much.

Protagonist speaks now but given how woody and stiff everything feels like, I'm not sure it's good option honestly (I can't belive I'm saying this). Bar is raised way too high in character interactions (Mass Effect series, Alpha Protocol and especially new king in this feature - Witcher 3). I mean you can't skip the whole non verbal communication part, especially if your voice acting is subpar. Scene is so lifeless that it makes even japanese visual novels feel superior.

I know many are really happy about this game and will ignore many of the obvious shortcomings but unfortunately for me, I probably can't. Not in this post Witcher 3, Order 1886 or Assassin's Creed series world. It's going to be budget title for me.

Overly compressed 720p video doesn't really help either. Some of the lighting does look nicer than previous but it definitely doesn't look like a high budget modern title.

I really wish it had rage gameplay, graphics and technical excellence, with Bethesda world/environements building...

Rage has the best "feel" when it comes to the shooting of any semi-recent game I can remember. Gamebryo stuff has absolutely the worst...

I'm not sure they should be similar though, it is a statistical RPG at its core. I didn't play Fallout 3/NV much but the shooting mechanics without VATS seemed utterly useless unless you were at end game and shooting rats. Skyrim on the other hand seems to handy realtime combat much better.

True, outside of VATS the weapons feel horribly underpowered and the engine introduces some kind of reality defying mouse lag that gets even (much) worse when vsync is enabled unless you resort to crazy workarounds (which I do because I love the games). My #1 hope for this game is for them to fix that.

Bethesda have released the PC requirements and they're pretty modest (especially compared to Battlefront!) and a bunch of other interesting stuff - all blatantly borrowed from the official site.

Any truth to the rumor that its using gameworks ? If it is , I may push back my purchase until its cheap on steam

That's a shame , I was hoping since AMD was in two of the consoles developers would target that hardware and we'd see it taken better advantage of but gamework really screws up that notion.

Saw that pict on Reddit yesterday and I laughed so hard I got tears in my eyes. The entire thread was a delight, it's been hilarious to watch Reddit change from pro-nVidia to anti-nVidia over the last week or two.

EDITED BITS: Found the Reddit thread. :)

I think NVidia fans are starting to see what happens when a company really doesn't have competition . The email tied to drivers was a big wake up call for those who didn't care about the gtx 970.

All companies need competition
