Factor5 making exclusives on PS3 because of performance

And saying that factor5(again a developer that has only produced complete garbage as far as gameplay goes,IMO) becoming a sony 2nd party is a blow for....MS(for which they had never developed anything) is really stupid,IMO

Stupid? No. In fact, there's truth to it.

1) Factor 5, whatever you think of them, have gained a big name for themselves for their work on GC. And when a big name reportedly chooses your hardware over a competitor's claiming "more power," that's good PR.

2) Many people like their games. Quite a few GC owners bought the console just for F5's Star Wars game alone. I did, and I love it to this day.

3) Even if you don't like their gameplay, you have to admit that F5 are technically gifted. They'll make PS3 sing, and when they do, people will point to that as proof of PS3's capability. They're gonna help Sony showcase this system.

All of which help Sony, and conversely, it could be said, hurt Microsoft.

Both CPU's use OOOE correct? To be honest, I'm not exactly sure why MS/Sony went with this (I could hazard a guess but I'd rather not). Could someone explain the advantages/disadvantages, and why MS would do this? (I read why they went with it in the CELL).

It's the opposite, Cell at least is an in-order design. I thought I had read somewhere than X360's CPU was in-order too, but I can't remember if that was confirmed or not.

In-order means less control logic = more computational logic and/or higher clock. But your instructions don't get reordered automatically to best fit the current state of execution in the processor, so the programmer has to be a little more careful if absolute performance is desired.

Yes, this is a plus for Sony.

Yes, F5 is very technically gifted.

The verdict is still out on the quality of their games. Their last RL was not very good; RL:RS 2 was a nice launch title but lacked depth and multiplayer. I like my RL:RS2 but it played very little after I quickly beat it.

Obviously F5 should be able to make an awesome looking SW game. And that will appeal to SW fans (all that are left after the recent movies!) and it will sell well. And that is all that is important. It will look good and sell well.

Good move by Sony.

What's I think is more interesting, with this news, is to see that Sony, now, got onboard most of the best Dev Houses, technically/graphically speaking, in the market.

Not that it's important from a market perspective or anything, though.

Psssttt, here's a bit of info:RL3 bombed hard.RL2 sold well cause it was the only GC launch game that had good graphics while its sequel(despite the hype for its graphics again) bombed.

Factor5 has never made a good game but i guess that if people can get excited for sequels to this http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/918762.asp?q=killzone
and this http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/914984.asp?q=getaway
then they can get excited about anything ps3-related(and call it a...victory  )

Well people even get excited for KZ2......i mean Insomniac, with its great Track Record shows an interesting FPS and nobody cares, Guerrila that mae Killzone..... gets people all excited about KZ2 over a CG.....

Lol

fulcizombie, you seem to have a nasty habit of mistaking your preferences and opinions as FACTS. Which, sorry to break it to you, sir - they are not. ;)

And at the risk of being teased by some of the more closed-minded individuals out there, I'll go on record right now as saying that I enjoyed both Star Wars games on the Cube (though the on-foot missions were definitely a misstep 8) ), and Killzone is to this day one of my favorite games.

I tore through the single player mission in three days, drinking up every drop of that brutal war-torn atmosphere... and online is the icing on the cake. Team deathmatch on the Beach level makes for some of the most fun and exciting online gaming moments I've ever had! :)

we all know that ps2 got it a$$ saved because it had the best dev houses on the planet (Naughty Dog ,insomniac ,Kojima team..). I can't even imagine how these teams will fare on the now more powerfull hardware .(and even if both hardware where on the same level of power).
Yes it counts.

The Insomniac shooter looks really, really dull but it's only been in development for a short time probably. But calling it interesting, at this stage, I don't agree with at all.

My favorite Eggebrecht quote was when he said Rogue Leader ran at 13 fps on Xbox.

Instead of 15-30fps on the gamecube?

Do you honestly think he converted the engine to the Xbox, taking full advantage of its architecture, just to see how it ran there?

Please, don't insult out intelligence.

Bad london-boy, BAD!

*smacks lb's nose with a newspaper*

You should know better than still be arguing about F5's last gen quotes.

He did actually say that, btw, but of course it was a quick port to the GF2 powered Xbox at the time. All this was argued and settled ages ago, and yet people are still at it instead of having a laugh.

It ran 60 fps on gamecube.

Anyhow, halo at the E3 before it came out was doing like 10-15fps, yet was 20-30fps by the time it launched like 6 months later. Who knows, maybe they needed to optimize memory access or something.

What I've heard is that Cell still has the OOOE hardware, while Xbox360 CPU does not.

Quote from a emulation dev who works as a programmer

As far as the PPC it's a full power PPC G5 core unlike some others :)
