Exclusive GTA IV content for PS3 too

Maybe each console will get exclusive content? Like i'll be able to buy this add on the X360 but not on the PS3 and vise versa...

Well I'm kinda wondering how both consoles will work out episodic content (if that ends up being the case for both consoles). They said like a couple months after release, rockstar must have a pretty talented team because its taking valve a little longer than expected to get out their next episode (I suppose thats due to 360/ps3 getting in the fun as well though). I'd be impressed if each console got a few hours of content only a few months after release.

#1. You can't hold someone else responsible for the way you chose to interpret things. I don't hold Ubisoft or Sony reps responsible for Sony fans thinking AC was a PS3 exclusive.

#2. Nobody knows IF this is even true, and IF it is, what the content is. The PS3 may get exclusive content that is somewhat less than the full episodes that the 360 will be getting. It may get more than the 360.

Fact is, all we know for certain is that it's rumored to get something.

And how you interpret that is entirely up to you.

this is true IMO.

People hear what they want to hear and create their own perceptions.

Yeah, kinda feel bad for some members. After X06, rabidrabbit got a lot of flack for saying the ps3 might have exclusive content as well IIRC. :/

*sniff* yes I did, an still feel scarred for that.

I feel I deserve an apology, if that rumour is indeed true, and neither console versions of GTA4 would be the "definitive, complete version" (you know who you are :D)

I feel better already!

Anyway, anyone who thought PS3 would not get downloadable content too, or somehow "less" or "incomplete" content, was not thinking rationally.
GT4 is a natively multiplatform game, and if Microsoft had some exclusive deal for exclusivity on exclusive content, I'm sure Peter Moore had been more specific about that.

I don't exactly understand why you guys discuss and dissect PR talk, when it's just that, PR talk.
It has never been said that PR talk was supposed to "inform you" in a professional and unbiased journalistic way. It's just meant to create a buzz around a product with intention to sell that said product. Nothing really specific to the videogame industry.

Anyway, am I the only one who dislike, very much, the idea of new downloadable areas?
Especially when it's being announced before the game ships and that the rumors says that the budget of the game is way past the "reasonable point" even for a big budget next-gen game.
I hope that this episodes are fully featured "miniature GTAs" and not just small patches of GTA4 lands with only side missions thrown together only to recoup more money on the initial investment.

Were you seriously expecting anything different from episodic content?!

(Though for the record, Sam and Max is due out any minute now in episodic form, $9 an episode, so there's hope yet!)

That depends very much on the situation.

I don't view "new downloadable areas" as any different from expansion packs that many PC games end up with, other than there is generally less content and a lower price for it. In most cases the content wouldn't make it into the original game release due to time or budget constraints, but is planned for before the game ever ships.

It would bother me however if the content were distributed very shortly after the game ships because that would indicate that the content was ready, or very nearly ready, and could have been included in th game itself.

But I think the question we should ask is "If the content wasn't sold seperately would it have ever been made in the first place?" I believe that more often than not the answer is NO.

Yes, from quality developers like Bioware, I expect excellent episodic content.

BOttom line is if the Add On's for GTA4 don't cut it, I just won't buy them. And if they negatively impact the game so that it's not a complete game (which I highly doubt) then I won't buy that either, I'll go rent it for $6.

What town or area could the GTA4 be set then?
A town or area that can be thought of consisting from "islands" or areas that could easily be broken to "episodic content".
Or will the game be set in an imaginary North America in general or some other imaginary country with a close resemblance to real country, with the different "islands" representing just different states or cities inside that country.

Or will the "exclusive downloadable content" be just some mini missions, like some car race in the city that's loosely tied to the overall storyline and comes with a lite storyline of it's own (I'm not sure if the word "epic" has been said in context of thes downloadable content, such missions would hardly be "epic", but the meaning of "epic" can always be stretched just that bit ;) )
So it would not even need much any additional content in form of new areas, as the existing city streets would be used for racing, it might add some new vehicles and such too to add value.

That wouldn't break the main game storyline too much between the differnt platforms, while still giving both the bragging rights of "exclusive downloadable missions".

It was mentioned these "exclusive downloadable content" would be hours of gameplay, that doesn't necessarily mean hours to complete the "mission" from start to finish, it might as well mean hours to complete all the mini objectives inside a race for example, like there could be Burnout style "achievements" for making an opponent crash etc...

Ah come on, you.. me and everybody else interpreted what he said as the 360 getting more than the PS3 version. If the PS3 were getting exclusive content as well, it would have never been such a big deal at the time. I'm sure you could agree with that. I'm not saying that he had to announce ps3 exclusive content at the same time, thats crazy. It's just misleading, thats all...just like the soccer fiasco. But thats another story. ;)

Its completely irrelevant how you and everybody else interpreted it.

As long as what he says its true, Peter Moore (nor anybody else who fits into that criteria) should be hold responsible for how other people interpret things. Sure, Peter Moore, like every other PR-rep is an expert in "weasel" speak, but unless you havent learned to see through the "weasel-languauge" your not ready for real life.

When Ken Kutagari say some BS about him having a vision about the PS3 being four dimensional, i dont expect Sony to produce a time-machine in every PS3... You have to learn what to filter out due to just being BS.

And what to filter out because its weasel speak. Like Ubisoft did with Assassins Creed. Anybody who has a working brain and isnt biased when it comes to consoles could tell with their initial annoucement that this was not an exclusive title.

When the CEO of a Fortune 500 company goes on the news and tells me that he is "optimistic" about the future, i know that i should probably short that stock.

Anyway, the biggest problem is that most people dont watch the actual annoucements, but read the news, and gaming journalism is basically all about misquoting people and making false rumors.

Just like the "soccer fiasco", where Moore said that "The Xbox 360 will be the only console were you can play next-gen soccer this year".

To me, and to most people i know, this statement was simply Moore pointing out the fact that this years Fifa will not be on the PS3, because the isnt out in europe before next year. I'm not dumb enough to believe that EA suddenly decided that one of their bestselling franchises should suddenly gain exclusivity

Considering the fact that all Rockstar games are supposed to use the RAGE Engine this generation, and the fact that R* allready made a game for the X360, using this engine, it seems quite likely that the lead plattform would be X360.

Further, considering that the X360 will probably have the biggest userbase in fall 07, it would also be the smartest place to spend their resources.

On the other hand, since PS3 -> 360 porting is wildly believed to be easier than the other way round, if you're taking the PS3 seriously at all (which Rockstar probably are), it makes sense to bite the bullet and have the PS3 as a lead platform.

Well I'm glad you decided to vent your emotions on a 3+ month old quote but you can be rest assured I dont take everything PR says for face value. And BTW I was referring to winning eleven, not fifa (if I'm wrong on that then konami is wrong as well, cause they were pretty pissed about the statement last I heard).

Anyways, it's in the past.

just do a search for "common sense" the webpage online :) No seriously, just an educated guess on a few things. Since the 360 early devkits and dev software were around for quite a while and it was first announced to have extra content coming downloadable with the 360 version. Judging how nothing was known about PS3 network at the time of that announcement, I'd say it's a good guess they were using it as the base platform.
