Europe: can it be cracked?

History is not very very very likely to repeat itself. History is just as likely to repeat itself like any other half arsed theory based on logic.

I´m not sure i get what your saying, so i will ignore it since i only can read it as an insult.

If MS wants to succeed in Europe they need to invest there too. You can't just go there and get money.

If what I hear/see with regards to PS3 pre-orders is right then soon people are going to be making a thread called "How can Sony crack Europe"..

Why, what are you hearing/seeing? I don't get much chance to hit the shops at the moment, and i've not seen any stories on it apart from Woolworth's saying something about record sales. How bad is it?

Here in the UK, the official line is that PS3 pre-orders are remarkably high; but with PS3 bundles being downgraded in price already, it doesn't take the flood of anecdotal reports to the contrary which we've seen from retail insiders in the last week to see that this claim is on shaky ground.

Its not bad as in PS3 selling really poorly, I'm not predicting a dooms day scenario for Sony :) I just think that PS3 won't sell out, that there'll be a good amount of stock on shelves and online days and weeks after launch. I think that this idea some people have of PS3 dominating Europe isn't happening. Why do I think this? Well its mostly circumstantial so just take it as my opinion. But what I've seen personally in shops are assistants trying at every opportunity to convince me to pre-order a PS3. Online its still available for pre-order on most sites (simplygames have even discounted it to £415 and still have stock now) and everyone I talk to won't even consider one due to the insane price. People I know who had a PS3 pre-ordered just to sell on ebay are now cancelling because they're sure they won't be able to make a profit...

As I said I'm pretty sure it'll sell ok, but I don't see it causing Microsoft and Nintendo any major sleepless nights wondering what they can do to stop it..

Microsoft offered a 50% discount in one game in Europe at the Xbox 360 launch even with the low shipments that caused it to be sold out at launch.

Not sure where you are, but over here (Netherlands) there was no such thing as discounts nor units on shelves for at least a month or two.

I am from Spain, the discount was limited to few games and was an official campaign.

It did sell out ? There were 20-30 units left when I went to a shop 2 days after launch.
It wasn't a Wii level sell out but the console was hard to find, but the Core pack was easy to find soon after launch.

Makes sense. France, Italy and Spain are tough markets (in Europe) for MS.

And indeed, Wii is on another level. Still nowhere to be found over here...

Wii is already easy to find over here but I have never seen a nunchaku controller in a store (I have yet to play multy on Rayman because of that).

Seems to me the first generation gamers are now starting families and raise kids. I'd easily get a 360 if it could double as console for young kids, but as it is now I'm going the Wii way. I cant hide away a 360 and play GoW late at night when the kids are asleep - I have to offer them some gaming too. 360 needs more Viva Pinatas to attract me and my family. Once it has that, I'll pick one up - along with GoW and other games that I'll keep to myself :)

Edit: Not sure if this is a euro perspective or more of a universal family-father-gamer perspective...
