EA offer $2 billion to buy Take Two

$150 million in profits from sports?

Maybe revenues but profits?

There are a lot of people who buy the 2K sports games who will never buy EA.

So it's presumptive to assume that all of them would migrate, at least immediately, to EA.

I really don't know what the profit situation is like, but I think you're underestimating the sports market. The Madden game does near 300million a year in sales.

So you think these sports gamers would just stop gaming if EA bought take 2? I'm sure there's many who would claim it but relatively few who would actually follow through.

A lot of the people who buy 2k sports games given a choice would buy EA sports given no choice. It won't be all of them, true, but I'd expect it to be the great majority.

Still, I think it's about the whole package a 2K purchase offers instead of just one part.

Sports games market is big but 2K Sports' share of it can't be that big. NFL games are the best-sellers and they've been shut out of it for 3-4 years.

There are a lot of guys still playing NFL2K5, which was released in 2004, with updated rosters.

There is a big resentment of EA among those people, starting with blaming the demise of the DC on EA's refusal to support it. You have to remember that the 2K sports games were originally published as Sega Sports games.

I just read we're going to be stuck with EA / NFL exclusivity until at LEAST Feb 2013 now ;_;

Thompson really did get smacked down lol. I really hope that this whole rooze by Take Two is for the sake of saying "**** YOU EA". I mean really there is profit to be had here, hell I'd expect some investors to be pissed by this point perhaps, but I guess no one within Take Two really wants to see EA grow in power. I'm digging this :)

Apparantly EA has gone to TT shareholders. Question: Why can't R* buy themselves out (like Bungie did)? Or better yet why can't the teams doing the sport franchises buy themselves out?

They could, but they'd need to negotiate a framework within the confines of Take-Two. If they don't originate a plan to do so, are unable to secure the funding, and/or Take-Two is not receptive, it's not going to go anywhere.
