pssst.. there's a handheld forum now that is separate to the console forum ;)
I think this belongs there.

Just did a little breakdown comparison on sales. I left my "math" in there for people to double check it just in case I'm wrong.

DS Sales:

Total: 3,148,288 titles sold divided by 27 titles= 116,603 average sales per title

PSP Sales:

5,772
1,559-----------------------50861
Total: 2,195,119 titles sold divided by 32 titles = 68,597 per title average

Minus the top three in for each handheld:
DS Sales: 1402752 divided by 24 titles= 54,488 average per title
PSP Sales: 1313951 divided by 29 titles= 43,308 average per title

Minus the top 2 for each handheld:
DS: 1726943 divided by 25 titles= 69,060 average
PSP: 1582465 divided by 30 titles= 52,748 average

So, getting rid of the top 3 narrows down the gap quite a bit, but it seems as though DS still has a bit of an edge in sales per title.

For distribution you also need to factor in userbase. Copies per title/Number of units. If DS has twice as many units out there as PSP, the market for it's software per unit is half that of these shown numbers. I don't know what the number of units sold is though so can't do the sums myself, but it looks like as many games are sold on PSP as DS.

However I will get in quick and remind everyone, THESE ARE STATISTICS. Numbers only. PLEASE don't someone come along and say 'these numbers show x handheld is better than y handheld' or 'x handheld pwns y handheld'. Already I see glimpses of this sort of thread hijacking in process...

Of late this forum has been nothing but slag-fests and mindless arguments about consoles. Take that talk elsewhere.

i think it's important to remember that in japan the installed base of DS to PSP is roughly 2:1 (about 2M DS's verses 1M PSP's). nintendo is winning in units but tie in looks like it's going to sony.

Yeah Nintendogs and Naruto have been selling brilliantly for DS ever since release (in the top 2 to 3 in every daily chart since release). Plus older games like Mario, Wario and harvest moon ect have come back into the top 20 and top 10.

Yes, that's true, and I was going to add that in there but got forgot. However, PSP needs to erase the installed base deficit for those tie-in figures to really help it out. Wouldn't that still be pretty bad for both of them, though? I mean, that's a 2:1 tie in for PSP and a 1.5-1 tie in for DS. That doesn't seem too impressive for either.
