Do you think SEGA will return in 2010?

That example actually shows that an expensive PC-like system still doesn't meet the critical requirement of substantially outperforming the consoles yet.

And how do you work that out??

( I did forget the physics processor board )

A lot of PC titles lose out to console mainly because they cant be tuned for a fixed target...

The dedicated physics processing wouldn't leave it lacking, but the performance advantages still wouldn't be high enough to differentiate the quality as that of a different market, especially when even an expensive graphics card set-up like that doesn't go far beyond the upcoming consoles' graphics speed.

I dont think rendering / number of polys is going to differentiate arcade from home... instead memory and display quality...
For a high end machine a large HDTV or higher quality monitor combined with a good cabinet is likely to be the hook..

For low end the current Chihiro(?XB) board is probally good enough for a long time....

Widescreen high-definition arcade monitors are assumed (720p maybe, yet 1080p would be just as reachable with arcade-level specs), and the interface -- deluxe cabinets with surround speakers, force feedback, roll&tilt, whatever -- will of course be critical selling points for the arcade experience along with it.

Arcades, though, already boast better presentation now, so another selling point which could be restored to the industry would be a large advantage in processing power. Shader performance and image quality would be important there.

until Our boss president of Sega of Japan Yuki suzki gives us permission to make live announcements,in magazines, and television
So the boss hasn't given permission to say anything, but that's okay, the named developer is sticking his name on the bottom of a disclosure of new hardware that's top secret which he isn't yet allowed to talk about... :?

There is some interesting stuff there that makes me think that it may be authentic.

Such as- the news about disney and universal being on board. Could Sega Sammy be thinking about an all entertainment box where, you play games and download the latest movies via braodband?

"Li", isn' that chinese?

Maybe he works at Sonic Team China. I woud'nt expect a staffer from tha Japanes side of the business go online and reveal this.

This is getting too far. I can't understand how someone can take that seriously, well I knew that being fanatic requires blind eyes, but that's one big joke.

Seriously... how on Earth could Sega ever get back into the business? It's not like the old days where you could take off-the-shelf parts (thinking back to Genesis which had a normal Z80 and a normal 68k CPU)... These days, look at the huge investments MS and Sony and Nintendo have to put into their next-gen consoles. And a company like MS who can safely say things like "Yeah, we don't expect to turn a profit on the unit itself until maybe 2007 or so..." Sega Sammy is a little better financially than Sega by themselves after the fall of Dreamcast, but they're not pulling in 10 billion a year in revenue or anything like that.

Perhaps one day, they may try to compete again in the handheld area, but I don't see a next-gen console as een remotely realistic. Besides, if this whole Phoenix thing is even remotely true, then this guy basicallly got himself fired as well as pretty much blacklisted from the whole gaming industry.

Maybe Sega's planning to merge with Phantom and ultimately produce the same results... :p

Why is it that every so often people come out with total BS, shielding themselves behind their alleged involvement with SEGA?
*SegaR&D/Deadmeat come to mind*

Pretty close.

Sega Sammy's new system is called Aurora actually. It's being handled by SI Electronics, a Sega Sammy full subsidiary, and is based on Renesas's SH3707 mobile chip. Sega Sammy are probably planning to use it in a new value line of amusement devices like arcade, pachinko, and pachislot machines, as with Atomiswave, because of its affordability as a System-On-a-Chip.

Of note, this is one of the few high clockrate MBX systems, running at 150-MHz.

Aurora System Specifications:
SuperH Full Compatibility

90-nm System-on-a-Chip SH3707

300-MHz Central Core Digital Signal Processor SH4
........2.1-GFLOPS
........540-MIPS

8-Channel PCM/ADCPM Audio

MPEG-1, -2, and -4 Video

150-MHz 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator Core with SIMD Co-Processor MBX with VGP
........Vertex Shader 1.0+ Programmability with Skinning
........Curved Surface Processing with Fractional Tesselation and Support for Differing Levels-of-Detail on Neighboring Patch Edges
........32-Bit Blending and Z-Test Precision Independent from Buffer Depth
........Supersampling Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing Standard
........1280x1024 Image Resolution Maximum
........DOT3 Per-Pixel Lighting Support
........Anisotropic Texture Filtering Support
........10M-tri/sec
........450M-750M-pix/sec Average Effective Fillrate; One Pixel Pipeline

Can you imagine the awful quality of multiconsole released games if they had to be ported between 4 different systems.... shudder.... Sega would be better off merging with either MS or Nintendo and being exclusive to one system next gen. As much as it pains me to say it would have been a good buy for Nintendo and given them a few more 80's staples to build off of. Sega has botched Sonic since 1993, and recently botched Altered Beast and Shinobi remakes. Im still holding out hope for a decent Space Harrier or Alex Kidd revival...
