Do you currently own a HDTV? (Multiple Answer Poll)

Tap In mentioned doing a similar poll at another forum, and I thought it would be nice to get a feel for where we, as B3D posters, are on this issue. B3D is mainly composed of hardcore gamers, enthusiests, early adopters, and technophiles. So the results wont tell us much about the typical consumer or even the typical early adopter, but it should give us a good understanding of where we, as B3Ders, fit into the market.

Always nice to know where our biases are... and also to identify the reach techies from the pozers... like myself! :p

PS - The other poll got messed up, sorry about that.

and again for good measure...

Living Room: Samsung CRT HDTV, 1080i, component only.

Bedroom: Sharp Aquos, LCD TV, 720p native (1080i), HDMI, non-HDCP DVI, 720p/1080i components x2

Other Room: LCD TV, 720p native (1080i), non-HDCP DVI, 720p/1080i component x1, 480p component x1

Dont own, our plan to own anytime son. Basicaly in the day my TV broke or for some reason I need a new one I will see the prices and if there isnt a big diference anymore I may buy one.

BTW here is the poll?

I think a certain drawback of this poll is that it seems to imply that one put down whatever TV options they have, thus I put down SDTV and a 1080i set. But, at the end of the day, will we really be able then to judge the figures on a 'this percentage of B3D owns HDTVs' basis?

Anyway, a 1080i set for myself, and a standard TV as well.

EDIT: Actually, my bad... we're ok stilll due to the fact that it puts down how many total voters there have been. Big slip on my part! :)

EDIT 2: Well... no it'll still be a bit confusing though.

It was hard doing the poll because not every TV is used for gaming either. I guess I could have said: What TV do you currently game on...

Now that I think about it... duh. But as for %, it does give % based on posters, not items. So if you select 2 items, and were the only one to post, they would be 100% each.

The end results will say something like:

70% of B3D members have SDTVs
40% of B3D members have 720p TVs
50% of B3D members have 1080i TVs
01% of B3D members do not own a TV (=me!)

In some ways that can be just as informative. It gives an idea of how many TVs people actually own... I wish it could be more indepth. Like how many of what kinds (like flat panels), do you have 2 or more in 1 room, what brands, etc

huh? I voted 720p for my DLP (which is also what I game on) but are we supposed to keep voting?

I've four other TVs that are all hooked up in different rooms. Should I vote four more times for the four SDTVs I have?

No, but the poll is multiple answer. But if you voted... you cannot vote again due to script limitations. Sorry.

I see what you're saying Acert, it's just in terms of finding total HDTV penetration as a percentage of the B3D population, we're going to have to go the route of at least x number of members have HDTVs, by subtracting the non-HD vote count from the total votes cast.

I mean and that's not a problem of course, it just would have been cool to know exactly where we were in terms of HD penetration. :)

It's a good poll idea though, for sure.

But so right now, 26 votes in, at least ~58% of the respondents own an HDTV. But I suspect the number is much greater.

I've pretty much had an HD set (in one form or another) since 1995, so I checked quite a few boxes...

I see what you are saying. We can get that data because we can see who voted for SDTV and see if they selected any other item, if not we can compare the number of SDTV owners to the number of poll participants. It takes a minute to do that... I kind of overthrought the poll it seems! (That is what happens when a PC monitory using console gamer makes such a poll!)

On the bright side we now have a quick breakdown of the sets people own

Oh ok cool - another oversight on my part then! :p

Yeah I mean it's a little more work, but since we can see who voted for what, we can get to that HDTV penetration absolute afterall.

(Ok I hope people realize that a 1080i native set is not the same as a 720p native set!)

With 27 votes, 4 of the 9 with SDTVs also have an HDTV. 1 person does not have a TV. So 6 out of 27 do NOT have an HD TV. So at 27 votes:

22% do not own HTDVs
78% do own HDTVs

See, we can get relevant stats with some elbow grease :D

Another bugger is the labelling of HDTVs can be confusing. I was at Walmart and they have HDTVs and then next to them they have EDTVs that accept HDTV signals but don't output such. Oh well... waaaay to many factors!

My TV is 720 native (1280*768 actual pixels), but can do 1080i by scaling the image. I still think of it as 720 though, so that's what I put down in the vote. I don't plan on running it in 1080i mode anyway.
