How much are you willing to pay for a PS3?

At what price point do you plan to buy a PS3

I voted $399 since

1.) this is the price Xbox 360 set, so I could see Sony going for that price realistically

2.) we here in Switzerland don't pay in dollars, but I'd expect the price of a PS3 to hover around CHF 700 - 800 (which equals $550 to $630) overhere - which is what I payed for the PS2 at launch day.

3.) I don't think I'd want to pay much more for a PS3 than what Microsoft is asking for their premium model.

Acert93:

You should have made it clear that you were refering to prices at launch - as I see various people (thatdude90210, jvd etc) voting for ridiculous prices that shouldn't even be there to form a conclusive argument in reference to the Xbox360 pricing.

I don't believe he meant just launch . Otherwise he wouldn't have put less than 300$

id pay 400 easy for it, at launch.

some features that make it appealing for me is:
-blu-ray
-multiple memory formats (no more buying memory cards! i can use my 1gig memory from my psp)
-wifi
-hdmi
-cell cpu (not really in the beginning, but i wonder what they will be able to do in a year or two after launch)
-full backwards compatibility
-psp cross platform features (remote, games--kinda like the ps2 madden 06, wifi/usb)

im interested in the hd-eye-toy, but i dunno if id buy one. was never really into that sort of thing.

Though I'll probably buy it anyway if it was $500, I'm fool like that.
same.
i really hope they dont charge 500, which i doubt they will, but if they do i'll probably crack and go for it. (im betting they will charge 300-400 )

..oh and btw, out of black/white/silver. ill probably pick up the black one if i had a choice.

Depends how much money I have and how much software there is I want. If I have $400 spare when PS3 launches and it has games I want (and I have money for those too) I'll pay. If I'm strapped for cash I'll wait til it drops in price. I certainly don't mind waiting a year+ to get one. Launch titles tend to be pretty weak (with some exceptions obviously if Deano reads this :D )

For me it will depend on how muc they open the platform up. If I can get a HD, run linux, and write code that will run on it fairly easily I'd be willing to pay $500+. If it ends up just being a videogame console, I'll probably wait until the price drops to the $299 region.

Edit: In the end what I really want is a Cell workstation that also can play PS3 games.

I voted $400, thats over $500 in Canada dollars. Thats how much I would be willing to pay if I were to buy it launch.

I got my PS2 about 7 months after it launched. With taxes the final price came to about $520 Canadian. With all the stuff I traded in at the time, I only payed about $250 cash IIRC.

I like these polls that are going on lately - they give a nice snapshot of a number of things we often talk about but don't actually quantify.

There should be a "fast food chain vote" in the general forum, come to find out theres a Burger King Bias!!! :devilish:. It would be a vote for the evil Trinity Burger King, McDonalds and Wendy's.

Actually I intended for it to be "the top price you will pay for it when you buy it". That is why it goes down to $100. That is why I said, "If you do not plan to purchase a PS3 in the next 4 years ". ;)

2 reasons for this

1. Some people live outside rich countries--yet they are a significant part of the console market. $150 to us is like $400 of their budget.

2. Even in wealthy places like the US (where less than 1% can honestly be called "poor") not everyone is willing to splash down $300+ on a console.

Many wait and wait for a good price point.

Honestly, I tend to be one of those. This gen may be different if great games are available at launch, but I am tending toward waiting at this point in some ways to see how the PS3/Xbox thing falls out. I cannot afford 2 consoles + accessories + games.

So if I could get a console at $200, or even $150 (like I did the GCN 1 year after launch!) then HURRAH!

The variable pricing is not meant to offend. $100 is an IMPORTANT price point on consoles, ditto $150 and $200.

They are just contrary to the tastes of most on this forum. ;) Hardcore gamers... gotta love them!

It is all in who makes the poll 8)

Heh, I bought a 3DO shortly after launch (Crash N' Burn owns), so I guess I'm about willing to pay whatever they want to charge.

BTW, whatever happened to Crystal Dynamics?

whatever happened to Crystal Dynamics?

Dude, where have you been

CrystalD is still around, they have done numerous games over the years like the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver games, Gex series and few more from previous gen and this gen.

They are currently working on the new Tomb Raider game.

I don't think we'll see a significant jump in the gaming experience from this gen to next for a while. Once the production processes of both consoles are matured, competition will drive the price down. Around the same time, the real good games should come out. I'll wait a couple years.
