Diablo III - It's official

Interesting they'll be putting in a gimped stat boost mechanic with the Paragon system. It might extend the playability a bit, but it still doesn't allow for the level up variations which was a large part of what made D2 so addictive for me and others like me.

Still it's better than nothing. And I'll probably be getting D3:ROS anyway. I'm a sucker like that. :p

Targetted legendaries, a paladin-like class, stat allocation via the paragon system, loot 2.0, transmogrification and enchanting, new level cap, smart drops, new reagents, etc. I want this tomorrow. This 'sounds' like the Diablo 3 I wanted when the game was first announced back in 2008.

There's still too little character customization. They should put the enchanter back in that they took out during the beta, instead of this transmogger shit they've announced. They're putting lipstick on a pig and calling it a day, not satisfactory.

One other thing I really wish they'd put in that was in D2. Swappable weapon slots. I REALLY would like the ability to easily swap between two weapon sets. That's one of the things that I really miss from D2.

Also, I hope to god they give more weapon slots. The 10 slots they currently limit you to is ridiculous. I have all slots filled in order to get the 2 of each class to 60 achievement. Which leaves no slots for me to work on Hardcore achievements if I want (no way I'm trying to get to 60 on hardcore. :p

And with one or two more new classes in the expansion, I have NO slots currently available for them.

Why don't you delete the characters you don't plan on playing regularly once you've hit 60 with them?

Because I stopped playing before I got most of them to 60. :p I only have one character at 60, the rest are at varying levels Instead of farming extensively, whenever I got an upgrade to one character, I'd move the item to the next character down, and level him up until he got an upgrade and repeat the process until I got to the bottom of the stack. Then repeat starting form the highest non-60. Also would start that process if I got a class specific weapon. Then I'd do a mini routine of that with just the 2 classes.

It kept things somewhat interesting considering the complete lack of character customization when leveling up compared to D2.

I have absolutely no idea what I plan on doing if there's no new character slots when the expansion comes out. hell, with how little storage costs now, just give us 20 character slots and be done with it.

SB

I'll be surprised if they don't jump it to at least 12 character slots since the base game launched with 2 per class, one for soft and one for hardcore.

I am very curious about what the sales number will be for this expansion. Unfortunately the numbers won't be published unless they are favorable.
It's the first Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo game or expansion ever (including Sierras Hellfire for the original Diablo), that I'm not buying.

I'll probably pick it up, but it would be interesting to see the numbers. It will show just how many people are still playing it beyond the initial high sales.

Looks like I was wrong about the announcement, I predicted they wouldn't announce the expac so close to the console release date. I haven't seen any backlash about it from the console players, though, since they probably won't see this expac for who knows how long. It doesn't even have a release date for PC (which tells me "Holiday 2014" or so), so it could still be a couple years away for console players.

Not sure what I think about the changes like Loot 2.0... they seem to be on the good side at first glance, but then you listen to the guy talk about them and he always says that you "have a chance" to get what they're talking about. So it still sounds like the game will drop a bunch of worthless crap, just that it will have slightly more useful stuff in and amongst the garbage. Sounds like patch notes: "Increased the chance of getting a useful drop to 7% (was 5%)."

The "new and improved" Paragon system sounds like what they should have put in the game from the start. But I don't think players wanted it this way, only available after hitting top level. And it still seems somewhat pointless. Let's see, I have points to spend on my lv70 Barbarian... should I go for Strength or Intelligence? I mean, come on.. that's not really a "choice" system.

Blizzard is a publically traded company... I'd be surprised if it was even possible for them to keep something like that secret, seeing as they're obligated to disclose information that would affect their stock price. In any case it'll sell like wildfire; of course it will.

If they made it so it only dropped class specific loot and stats all the time, you'd have people like me royally pissed off as well. I enjoy using my higher level characters to farm items for my lower level characters from time to time. Or just giving items to friends.

As to paragon, yeah. Strength versus Int may not be the greatest for a Barbarian, but strength versus Dex? I wouldn't mind playing around with that. Then again, as I've said before, D3 is dumbed down so much compared to D2 that there just aren't very many fun ways to configure your character. In D2, going more Int. would have given more mana, which in turn would have allowed you to spam skills more often even if Int. wasn't that class' main attribute.

But with the paragon system it's pretty meaningless anyway. It takes forever to gain a paragon level, expecially 100 levels of it. And +100 stats spread over however many characters you have? Meh. Still not even remotely close to the character customization available when leveling up in D2.

Just give me an option to allocate my own stats when leveling up instead of the fixed stat allocation. If I want to try playing a gimped build, let me. That's half the fun. Leave the fixed stat allocation as default and just put in a gdamn option for people like me. Still doesn't address the F'd up skill system they have in place, but at least it's a start.

It's just one act (and one additional class), and the game itself with its fundamental mechanics is already designed. They've been working on this thing for a large amount of time already; remember Lord of Destruction launched a mere year after D2, and it's been ~1.25 years (soon 1.5) already since launch. I don't think it will be as long as summer.

And that's perfectly fine. I've put stuff in the stash for my alts, too. But the game is clearly pushing you to go to the auction house rather than just finding your own gear. They actually reduce the chances of finding class-specific gear for the character you're playing on. In my case, my monk is wonderful for gearing up Intellect classes, but in the couple hours I played yesterday, I saw maybe two drops with any Dex, and none of them were upgrades. And I'm still at the point where I pick up every blue item to salvage for mats, and I still can't find anything I can actually use. That's probably why I'm having so much trouble in late Nightmare, because half my gear is still from Normal... played through the whole f'in game and haven't yet replaced everything. That's just ridiculous, and it's one of the things that really pisses me off about this game (if you can't tell.. hehe). That's one reason why I'm seriously considering double-dipping to the console version, since that one's built without having to consider the AH.

You must be really unlucky. I find upgrades for the character I'm playing all the time. Just as many as I find for my alts. Which basically just means that everything is purely random with no %drop chance favoring any class over another. The only thing that seems to drop more often than others is #$%#ing barbarian belts. :D But other than that I find just as much monk specific items on my monk as I find wizard specific things on my monk or any other class specific item.

At least that's how it was before I stopped playing. I've played a bit more with the announcement of the new expansion, and while not extensive, that doesn't seem to have changed.

No, you're just special, because what's described is pretty much the norm for the D3 community. Which has been very vocal about how worthless drops are 99% of the time, including legendaries. I think I've had 2-3 drops that were usable upgrades for my toons in 100s of hours of play time.

Itemization was intentionally broken to foster/force a higher use by the player base of the AH.
