Diablo 3 - Gamepad Edition

Ok, thanks guys. So far, I'm liking this game.
Loving the game here. It is probably the best Xbox One game to date. and item hunting is my thing.

I wrote a few guides for Diablo 2, and Diablo 3 is better and closer to Diablo 2 now.

That being said, do you know if the console version saves the map seed? :smile2:

I am playing single player and Diablo 2 used to save the map seed, but now I feel as if I am playing online, the map isn't saved, I think.

I decided to go for this, because I was still hoping the kids would like it. They did really like the gameplay, but my son wanted to stop after about 30 minutes because he thought it would give him nightmares. His one year older friend was scared too, but did want to keep playing with me. I had to tell him to stop running away at one point in the Cathedral because he was too scared of overwhelming forces, but when I told him he should stop he calmed down. In all fairness to my son, his friend was doing the ranged combat and felt comfortable as long as my son (or I) kept the enemies from reaching him ...

As cute as all that was, it basically means I won't let them play this again for a while, as I remember this is an age where nightmares can be really scary (I remember some of them quite well to this day), so I'll play with someone online then probably or try to find a friend for the couch ;).

Overall though the game certainly has improved in its console iteration over what I played on PC, which was a really boring click-fest at the time, whereas this feels a bit more visceral and certainly looks a whole lot better at 1080p / 60fps, and couch coop is a great thing for this type of game.

Damn, my Fire Bats don't have any range at all. Does their range get upgraded as you level up/get appropriate gems? Kind of useless at the moment.

The Crusader is a killing machine, I repeat ! Awesome :devilish: ! Loving this new Diablo !

But for everything good, there spawns something bad. THe looy is so frequent now that my inventory is always full :( and also there seems to be no point in adding gems to sockets or investing in any way in gear as better gear would drop within 15 minutes !
Maybe all the socketing and investment in Artisan will make sense once i it the level cap, but as of now its just better to keep equipping new items and go on without bothering ! Diablo3 on ps3 wasn't so, but newer faster levelling up and faster loot drops have made the game very enjoybable but the player investment in gear is meaningless , as of now.

Will hit level cap and see how it goes from there.

Well that's embarassing.

So last night I had the volume up a bit higher while I was playing and at one point I brought up the "legend" R3 network menu. I tried using the d-pad again and this time noticed a slight sound corresponding to each press of the pad. Looking very close at the screen I realized that I was in fact scrolling through the options, just that the highlight for the selected line was so faint on my TV that it is almost imperceptable. Not sure how much of that is to do with brightness settings in game, my TV or my eyes but at least now I can choose what network mode I want.

Cheers

Your gamma needs adjustment. and pump up the sound bro, this ps4 version has much better and more variety of ambient sounds than the ps3 version.

A@Arwin: The game is very pretty compared to the ps4 version. Better contrasts, more detail, more geometry, more lighting, more particles, better effects ....looks fab  ! Its as if their art style was not getting realised on the ps3 at all, but here it shines with its simplistic yet beautiful glory !

So, I have the PS3 version and played through it once...does the PS4 version has any additional value? It costs 70€ in the psn store...a bit much imo, so that is why I am struggling to insta buy it.

Is it worth it?

Yes ! I was worried too,as u know I was in the same boat as u, but this version is totally worth it. Revamped faster paced gameplay, levelling and loot. I am still at act 2(level50),with my Crusader and it has been more fun than all my time spent on the ps3 version.the whole difficulty system is also revamped meaning u get instant benefits for playing on harder difficulties.

And Billyidol, Diablo starts when the campaign ends. Play on expert difficulty, level up quick, play the new Act V and then romp through the adventure mode ! I can't wait to hit level 70 and go into adventure mode raids !

Be sure to keep low level socketed helms and weps so you can level your alt chars quicker!
I sell away everything that I am not wearing. I think with this kind of loot drops the new characters would get their own equipment while playing. Frankly I find it very taxing to think what to keep and what to throw away , so I just sell all.

BTW, the game doesn't show the buffs/attributes granted by socketed gems ! That's a major issue as I can correctly compare my socketed armour s and weapons with new drops :( ! Is there any way to see that? I just can't tell if the new item is better or not as I can't see what's exactly the gems have added to my item.

EDIT: and now got 3 more legendaries via player Mail ! holy shit, Legendaries are dropping left right and centre ! I hope this doesn't devalue the whole concept of the special loot !

You're supposed to keep the best hand-me-downs for your other characters to bolster their progress. A good ring or weapon and new characters can romp through the early stages.

Does this game have local co-op, and how about age, is it "scary" or gory.

Yes, up to 4 player local co-op and yes, unfortunately to scary for 6-7 year olds at least in my personal experience. Real pity that.

But the inventory is too small and gets filled up every 5 mins....I just can't keep stuff around to take it to my stash.

Yeah, I really don't want to micromanage inventory, especially when new stuff comes along all the time.

Normally you portal to town to sell/salvage everything when you're full. I don't know anyone who plays differently as they're your other source of gold and your source of resources for crafting.

Once you have high level characters and lots of high level gems, socketed items can be extremely beneficial to new characters as the gems aren't level locked. You can put a +280 strength gem into an item on a level 1 character (lots of them even).

You'll get to the point where you would never stash any rares, only certain legendaries though, it's just an inevitability as you gain so many over them over time. I'd also assume that consoles would have a higher drop rate to cater for the lack of patience.

Oh, I didn't realise I could put Gems in the stash  ! THat will free some space for sure.

I wasn't stashing many weapons as they all have a level requirement and won't be useable for my new characters untill they level up anyways ! Isn't that so ? Maybe I didn't notice, but I was playing it the Torchlight 2 way ( or so I believe).

and yes, I play Torchlight 2 also that way where i make way to town to empty my inventory but seriously, this latest version of Diablo 3 drops too much loot, much more than D3 on PS3, and it gets irritating to have to return to town every 5 mins. So, I end up not picking up most of the stuff and not touching anything thats not for my class. But, yes, I think gems are taking up too much of my inventory space(if it is shared with weapons/armour). I will empty that asap.

Is anyone annoyed with the radial inventory/skill/crafting UI? The radial UI feels clunky and has unecessary/unintuitive button presses. I get that blizzard wanted to make the UI elements larger and easier to read, but it doesnt even take up the whole screen. I feel like a full screen modified paperdoll + grid box would have worked since this game is 1080p.

You don't have to bother with grey or whites, just the blues and yellows. Gems are stackable and it's easier once you combine them and mainly keep only certain levels of gems but yes at the start you end up with a lot of them.

The only low level (ie: not ilvl 70) gear you need to keep in your stash is the lowest level socketed helm and wep you can find. It doesnt matter what the stats are, just need sockets. Gems have no level restrictions. So a flawless royal in helm is 41% bonus exp, in wep its +280 dmg. +280 wep dmg and 25 paragon points in all resist will allow you to faceroll everything up until level 50 or so (assuming you upgrade your gear with drops along the way). Makes life a lot easier. Also really good to keep is ilvl 70 lvl reduction weps. They roll up to -30 lvl reduction and you would not need to use a different wep until you reach 70.

If you find yourself running out of space in your stash, just make a mule. But it seems rather early to run out of space at this time. The only stuff you should be keeping (besides leveling gear) in your stash is ilvl 70 legendaries, crafting mats and gems.
