CYBERPUNK 2077 [PC Specific Patches and Settings]

On the pre launch trailer every npcs had shadows. Now it's sad that most of the time they don't. It makes the game really flat in some scenes :/

It still can be enabled (before 1.6. Have not tested on 1.6) but not sure what gpu is strong enough.

My rtx 3070 literally crawls in seconds per frame.

Any more info on this RT Overdrive mode?
  • Nvidia RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI) gives each neon sign, street lamp, car headlight, LED billboard and TV accurate ray-traced lighting and shadows, bathing objects, walls, passing cars and pedestrians in accurate colored lighting.
  • Ray-traced indirect lighting and reflections now bounce multiple times, compared to the previous solution’s single bounce. The result is even more accurate, realistic and immersive global illumination, reflections, and self-reflections
  • Ray-traced reflections are now rendered at full resolution, further improving their quality
  • Improved, more physically-based lighting removes the need for any other occlusion techniques
edit: better source (a bit more info there too)

In a way, it's kind of sad to see all the work done for RT on the REDEngine, when they announced months ago that they won't use it anymore. I hope nVidia is paying them to do that somehow. And maybe they can use the work done on the W3 "next gen" that we're still waiting for.

Maybe in the form of "our engineers will work with you for free"?

But since Red Engine is EoL, I wonder how that really benefit cdpr ? Well, yeah, I don't know, I hope the work they're doing will help them doing good/fast RT on the UE5 engine.

I don't think this new overdrive mode comes even close to path tracing and itlikely won't be worth the performance cost. If it were, small objects like that (red arrow) would not appear like they are floating but they would be grounded with a very soft shadow.

It already bothered me how some objects were floating and not grounded in the previous RT mode, but to see this not being fixed with the new overdrive mode which runs at 22 FPS without DLSS on a 4090 (which means it is 100% unplayable on Ampere and Turing GPUs) is pretty terrible.

I used this one https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/1502

But I don't remember which variables handles shadows.

There are lots of nice stuff there, including allowing V to have real time reflection.

Reply 2 : Ok so, I don't know if it's the mods or just the fact that I havent played in a while since version 1.22 or 1.3x, but now the sun is casting shadows onto npc, that's nice. Still, a lot of light sources are not generating shadows, but, oh well, it's 2022. Anyway, thx again !

Sun shadow Rt was added in 1.5 iirc

reportedly, NVIDIA 522.25 driver updates boost CP2077 performance up to around 10%, with the risk of the map looking bleached in white.

Currently traditional shadows have to be combined with the ray-traced shadows and then most people are grounded in Cyberpunk 2077. Hopefully with Overdrive there will be no need for traditional shadows anymore.

Just look at my post above. Objects are still not grounded properly with the Overdrive mode.

Firstly I was talking about people and secondly most objects are already grounded in the current version.

How good the overdrive mode will be or not will be seen in detail in a DF video at the latest.

one of the BEST mods for those that has finished CP2077

it provides new in-game story "gig" experience for the "hidden gems" collectibles.

So in that very specific example, I'm under the impression the tabletop itself is underlit -- a diffuse light is coming upward through the table so any possible shadow would be cast upward. Since it's a diffuse light, I suspect it wouldn't cast any shadow given the object size and distance to ceiling.

Of course, this probably isn't the only example. Just speaking only to the one you posted...

Anyway, gonna go home and try out this Overdrive mode on my 3080Ti. Now I'm really curious :)
