Current Generation Games Analysis Technical Discussion [2024] [XBSX|S, PS5, PC]

I'm sure that it would look blurry, but the series s version exists, and it's going to be how it's played by more than half of the Xbox owners. It has to look acceptable,
Acceptable to the mainstream is <720p upscaled - plenty of sub-HD games sell well. Can't infer anything about render quality from market dynamics.

Yea, but this is an analysis thread. You should really give some type of commentary/analysis of what you're posting so people know what the point of watching it is.
I don't have much to say because I thought the title and video itself were self-explanatory. That's an unofficial build of a PS5 game running pretty well on a PC.

I believe we haven't seen that...ever? I felt that that alone warranted a discussion without delving into the details. That and I asked for permission first because that build was made using stolen assets from the Insomniac hack so maybe the mods here don't want none of that posted.

Didn't read the second part of the post, ignore.

Anyways, it feels unfair to insomniac to even discuss this, so I don't know.

That's the detail that needs to accompany the video.

"Someone's unofficially created Spider-Man 2 on PC from the Insomniac leaked assets. Seems to be running pretty well to me, on a blahblahblah spec PC. This seems to suggest somethingsomething PC versus PS5 and blahblah SSD RAM teraflops somesuch thinkings."

In short, you felt the video was interesting. Please explain what you personally found interesting. ;)

Awesome but can we even discuss this given the context? You haven't objected so far so I assume it's fine but I wanted to make sure.

I'm not a mod or anything but I don't see what's wrong with discussing it as long as it's not linking to any potential downloads.

As for my comment on what I've seen of it.. it's actually incredibly impressive how much it's improved. It's come a very long way.

Was it included in the data stolen from Insomniac? How did they get this?

What is the nature of the build? Is the PC build in the Insomniac leak, or has the guy imported assets into UE5, or what?

By and large we are fine talking about hacks and whatnot so long as people are clear we don't endorse them and no-one should be doing them. See for example the various console hacking and homebrew threads. Unless the video links to how to pirate the game or somesuch, I don't see a problem with it. It actually provides a tech reference point to compare this build with the final when it releases.

If it's running at 30 fps on series s, it can at least run at 60 on series x by using series s settings. It's a linear game where you fight one on one and you traverse environments very slowly, so I don't think it's hitting the CPU all that much.
Developers should save themselves the controversy and offer options for those who want it.
You make an interesting point. Is there any 1st party game that has a 60fps mode on Series X but not on Series S?

I would hope Ninja Theory isn't artificially limiting the Series X version for parity. Could also be due to budget as well and would need more optimizing to be stable.

I don't think they are not enforcing parity, but some posts back someone made a point about ue5 single threadiness, so maybe using hardware lumen (it's not software lumen right?) is too much for a stable 60 (or even 60 at all).

Woops, I meant to write "I don't think they are enforcing parity". Double negation :runaway:

The reason I ask is there are several 3rd Party games that only have a 60fps mode on Series X not S. It's strange that 3rd Parties would have that but not any 1st Party games? I guess 3rd parties may not be putting in as much work on Series S versions but it does make one wonder.

Nixxes released another patch for Horizon FW. Claims to improve texture streaming and improve texture quality while also reducing memory usage. @Flappy Pannus I haven't gotten the chance to test it out but I wonder if that fixes the texture issues?

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition 1.3.55.0 Release Notes
Hey everyone,

Patch 1.3 is out now for Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on PC. This update includes new features, visual improvements and a range of optimizations, bugfixes and stability improvements, based on player feedback.

We've improved the visual quality of dust effects and made improvements to texture streaming to reduce memory usage and improve texture quality. This update also resolves performance regression that could occur when using the NVIDIA Reflex On+Boost setting.

In the General Settings menu, you'll find a new Interface Text Size option. Choose Large to improve legibility of the interface and in-game text on smaller screens. On Steam Deck, this option is set to Large by default.

This patch also updates Intel XeSS to version 1.3. This version introduces improvements in image quality, more quality options and a new anti-aliasing option: Intel XeSS Native AA. This mode improves anti-aliasing quality, without applying upscaling. To use XeSS Native AA, set upscaling to Off and select XeSS Native AA from the anti-aliasing settings.

From the teams at Nixxes and Guerilla: Thank you to everyone for playing and sharing feedback. We appreciate your insights that help us continue to improve the game.
