Current Generation Games Analysis Technical Discussion [2024] [XBSX|S, PS5, PC]

We're days away from 2025.. when is Nvidia going to give me the ability to set desktop resolution(DSR) and refresh rate on a game by game basis in their driver profiles?

Ran into this problem today. Refresh rate is reset to 60Hz with DSR enabled unless I first set desktop resolution to the desired DSR resolution. Annoying.

Doesn’t happen in every game though.

I used RTSS frame rate cap to set a per game cap that was always within my monitors VRR window.

It worked well and was the only way I could set individual frame rates per game.

I don't understand your issue, most people now just set it at max in desktop and then cap it.

You're still thinking about frame rate. We're talking about monitor refresh rate.

In some games when you choose a DSR resolution the refresh rate is capped at 60Hz.

In my case my max refresh rate is 175hz. On the desktop that's perfectly fine, but in games that don't play well with refresh rates not being evenly divisible by 2 to 4, you get stutters and hitches. Not to mention certain games just simply work better at 120hz or 60hz. Many games and many engines have their quirks, and sometimes you have to fiddle with a mixture of settings to get things right. Being able to have my desktop refresh rate always at 175hz, or at least 160hz, but then switch to 144hz, 120hz, or 60hz independently for each game driver profile, would be a very welcome capability.

Same goes for DSR. My screen is 3840x1600 ultrawide. Some (or even many) games will only go up to 2560x1440 16:9 as selectable in the menu. I would like the ability to add higher DSR resolutions (in my case typically 5120x2160, 5760x2400, or 7680x3200) on a per game basis in the driver profile because some games simply require the desktop to be set at that resolution to have the ability to select the resolution.

It's not the end of the world or anything.. All I'm saying is that it would be nice to have.

Not possible because the higher resolutions aren't exposed in the game until the desktop res is set.
So you dont set your desktop resolution in the game - your reply isnt clear
also you cant have windows without setting a desktop resolution (edit you can just accept whatever windows defaults to)

Impessive performance on PS5 seems to outperform XSX by a ~10% almost constantly. Anyway seems like the game is very well optimized regardless.

The absense of any RT effects makes the load more easy on the consoles.
Doesn't this have software ray tracing, similar to software lumen? (Not sure, but it looks like it to me).

Edit: it uses voxel cone tracing. Not sure what the CPU cost is for that technique.

That's one of the techs considered to replace HWRT in the pre-PS4 discussion, if compute would be adequate. I guess this was chosen for performance on consoles without adequate RT power? Nice to see someone using an alternative to the current defaults to compare results.

HWRT isn't available on the PC version for comparison?
