Crytek Presents: CRYSIS 3 [PS3, 360]

I know that Crytek had all graphical bells and whistles in Crysis 2. Even exclusives like KZ3 don't have SSAO or HDR for example. Yes, its more polished and yes it smoother, also native 720p but there are things they cut out. Its all about compromises and Crytek went for frame rate in C2.

Just the first level, when you get out of the gate and you get almost a forest in front of you. I guess those trees are very hard to render since there is alot of them, there is more polygons and alot of them cast a shadows which, because of threes swaying in the wind, play around in real time. Its much more open than any other shooter with those graphics so pop up is expected. I know that was one of the levels frame rate dragged down. Some other graphically heavy games carefully avoid these kind of tasks, but I guess Crytek couldn't because of their vision and PC version which would then seriously suffer.
Crysis 2 is so unbalanced in the technical department for whatever tradeoffs it made to gain that HDR and SSAO.

I don't understand this logic. Gamers expect better graphics out of these consoles this late in the generation and never think about the consequences.

Personally , I feel Crysis 1 is one best shooters out there ! Best gunplay ! Seconded by Killzone2. I still enjoy playing Crysis 1, cos the gameplay just rocks !

Agreed, even after years of me playing it on PC I still play a map and get a different experience with every play through.... No other fps offers so much variation in the way you play its maps.

Highly agreed. Played it again recently on my PS3 and instantly I remebered how much better the game played than even Crysis 2 in my eyes.

Crysis 1 is probably one of my favourite FPS games of all time. Up there with Halo:CE, Doom 2, KZ2, Timesplitters and a few others :)

Excellent, glad to see the lessons were learned from Crysis 2. Looking forward to this a fair bit now.

I prefer to believe that trailer is the unannounced Durango version...:p

PS Dx11 support day one doesn't mean much to me, they could have done that with C2 and it wouldn't have been any less bolted on.

Probably wont see purpose built DX11 games until next gen consoles.

Crysis 3 shipping in 2013 for PS360 is a pretty good indication that next gen consoles probably aren't ready for a late 2013 launch.

Might be interesting to see how far they can push current consoles given this will be their third console title. PC users might have to wait for next gen, Crysis 4, and a new setting to satisfy their expectations.

I'd like to see Crysis set on a full on Alien world.:D

Faux Edit:
But hold on, the Ceph weren't really aliens were they?

Eh? It's shipping spring 13 which says nothing about next gen consoles in late 13...now, it would have been an eyebrow raiser if it was for fall 13 PS360, but it's not.

Unless you just mean you think Crytek would have waited, which I disagree...there are plusses and minuses, but selling into the huge PS3 and 360 install base versus a very small next gen one is a sufficient plus.

I tend to think Crytek would have targeted late 2013 consoles if they were ready. Being a showcase title for next gen hardware has its own advantages. Resistance FoM sold 4 million copies being the only game in town for early PS3 adopters, much more than later entries to the series. Also more than Crysis 2 for what it's worth.

Yes, the advantage of being in early on next gen is there (exciting, etc), but there is also the drawback of low userbase, when you may only have 2 or 3 million systems out there total. Anyways, nothing saying Crytek wont be at next gen launch area too (rumor is Rhyse moved there)

I dont think we can make any assumptions about Crytek's strategy. To me they're just going to recycle the C2 engine (which is damned pretty) and sell a few more million. Again, if it was fall 13 PS360 I would have raised an eyebrow.

I think Crytek is more interested in signing those engine deals then selling Crysis copies.;)

There's no real sense in axing current gen release just because the new system showed up. It'd just be like the cross-generation games in 2005/6.

If they wanted to hit next gen, they would have months to do the porting, and they'd already have the rest of the team working on new content they could package in for a next-gen console re-release. Worst case is if they just do something along the lines of Crysis PS360 (downloadable-only).
