I'm definately interested in checking those out also, considering how much time you have put into this game they must be amazing :) Kudos for all the modding efforts you've done! Are those for the original Crysis? or for both Crysis games.

Have you checked out the CCC mods and if you are what's your opinion of their visual quality compared to the stock settings?

Visuals aside, I can't seem to get into this game. I don't feel like an uber soldier, I feel like a run and hide wimp. I'm at the part where I have to cross a bridge over a river and get inside a camp. I'm getting chased by a helicopter and half a dozen men.

What am I missing, is the game just this hard?

Are you playing Warhead or the original Crysis? I guess that sounds a bit like Crysis and not Warhead...there are quite a few different ways to play the game but yeah to survive you better use the suit shortcuts and keep the stealth mode handy :) I personally love using the shotgun so I get up close and personal with my kills. But first you should take out the chopper because despite stealth mode they can see where you are at it seems. And if you dont have the rocket launcher then use the vegetation and get to where you can find yourself the handy dandy rocket launcher and 2-3 well place shots will do the trick. Seriously the game is not that hard.

If you get handy with changing your suit shortcuts, you will start to feel like an uber soldier. But, they might have done some things differently with the suits energy. That runs out to fast in my opinion.

Recovery?

Lower difficulty settings. Also use tactics and mount a scope on your rifles. Be Rambo.

Nah the suits energy lasts long enough. If you can stay invisible for too long then its no fun. Like you said the important thing is the shortcuts for the suit. Just use stealth and get up close to the bad guys...and then sneak right up and switch to strength mode for example while making sure you have a decent amount of energy for the throw...with your one hand free shoot a guy or two and then throw the guy at the remaining bad guy....then make a run for it because your suit is probably low on energy and switch then after recovering just a tiny bit to either invisible mode or speed mode to get outta there quick...thats like 3 guys down right there and if you can time it better the other guy you knocked down while throwing the other bad guy at him...thats 4 :) Cake!!

I played the demo for this a while back... It doesn't seem very well thought out. The default gun they give you is so inaccurate I am honestly convinced I could not hit the broadside of a barn with it from a distance of 150 yards. Ammo was scarce, and you took damage too quickly. Yes, you can always go back and recharge, but to the degree the game forces you? It becomes silly, a game of hide and hope the enemy doesn't shoot you(Rather than sneak around and hope the enemy doesn't spot you or something of that ilk...).

The jumping an strength augments were too limited. Five uses, when the game throws around 8 people at you, while you have limited ammo and a gun that misses a lot? For that matter, the pistol was too weak(Five shots to down a guy or so? Come on, this is normal mode for Christ's sake.) and the one good gun had even less ammo available to it.

Far Cry was better, and I'm not even a big fan of it. Hell, I haven't played more than a little bit of it either.

All in all, just a clumsy as hell game. They got caught up in the idea of user configurable super powers and a huge island to explore, and didn't plan out the rest of it properly.

The elements were there... Just tweak it properly and it'd be a damn good game, better than Far Cry by, well, far.

I'm probably one of the few detractors of the game who think its' insanely high quality visuals had nothing to do with the gameplay. Clearly, a lot of thought was put into it. They just didn't think the right things, I guess you could say.

My main complaint, that enemies took too much damage, has been fixed in a patch.

As for guns being inaccurate, if you play on Delta you don't even get a reticule :!: A laser attachment will help a lot.

I find the guns to be quite accurate. Ofcourse you need to control the burst. If you just hold the firing key then you will miss a lot. And then stability affects the gun and weight (scope, tactical attachment weight etc).

Hehe try to hit accurately with an automatic rifle in real life doing full auto.. aint easy. The scattering increases greatly overtime and you constantly try to correct the muzzle direction. I've seen experienced people miss critically with full auto at 50m distance to target.. buahaha -_-

I always turn of HUD, reticules etc when possible. But I can hit really well by just assuming where the reticule is.

I am looking to get the 'Rambo acheivement' by Richard.

In Crysis wars if you use the Laser attachment the difference is night & day, all your shots will be perfect & almost exactly on spot where Laser is pointing even at distance.

One of the broken implementations which made me stop playing this game.

The spread is about the same with or without laser aim at distance or upclose, slow or fast firing (just checked in Crysis Wars editor). However it might have been patched or as you know since you played Crysis Wars that each server can have custom rules which applies for gameplay, weapons, hitpoints anything. So that might be it.

On another note I noticed my 360 pad was enabled with Crysis and what a sad story to play it with a pad.. or any game holy smokes. Feels like being tied up bagged in a sack and in a a dark room.

At the top of the rise before the downhill to the base, there's a couple of rocket launchers. They take down the chopper quite nicely. Also, remember that this is a "do what you want game". Don't walk across the bridge, jump into the sea and storm up from the beach, less baddies and fox holes for you to hide in. With a whole base full of guys, remember to use stealth a lot. This is one of the best encounters in the game. I play it over and over. If you manage to get into the base, a couple of tanks arrive that can only be killed by rockets from behind. There are a number of launchers around the base (in the petrol station etc).

The initial gun is fairly accurate. You can make it more so by getting prone on the floor. This isn't Quake 2, you can't run and expect exact shots all the time. Also, remember that the initial gun in a non-Korean gun, so why would there be loads of ammo for it? Chuck it away and pick up one of the enemy guns ASAP. Loads of ammo, nearly as accurate, with a scope on it, deadly.

Learn that your gun swings around slightly, and take care with your shots. I can take out people next to the shack in the main bay of the first level from the top of the hill with the pistol. It's easy enough, and way more satisifying than if your aim was straight and true all the time. It's one of the things that brings me back to the game. You do need some actual skill.

Hahaha I'm playing with a pad, works like a charm! you have to put the sensitivity all the way up though and it's a pity that you can't change the button layout, but all in all, it works just as well as in console games, and that means good once you get adjusted to it.

Crytek did go out of it's way to ensure the 360 pad integrates well with this game. I couldn't see myself actually playing through the game that way (or taking it online ), but for strolling around looking at the scenery on my 47" LCD it works a charm.

Yeah I wouldn't play online with a pad either, but the single player campaign is fine. I only used keyboard for quick saves and mouse for weapon attachments.

I'm just starting to see it's faults now, I've played it that much!!

Take away the gorgeous lighting and the game isn't anything special. Even with Rygels texture pack the game still has some down right crappy textures in places.

But the biggest problem is the IQ!!! Since I've got my 4890 I play games with AA and AF cranked up to the max!! And when I go back to Crysis with it's jaggie transparent textures and horrible jaggie shadows with bad LOD it just makes me go 'meh'

Going from 8xAA and 16AF to 4xAA and no AF ( God damn POM in Crysis ) is a real eye sore :(

Until the last drop!

But as said even without the lighting it still is in a class of it's own. I just disabled HDR and with my TODs it was still breathtaking. I do use Rygels pack but you can change these 2 commands to allow higher texture detail/merging. Almost every texture is of high/extreme detail and those very few of "low-quality" can still compete with any other games best textures (maybe not with PC games, lol).

Example:
Code:
r_DynTexMaxSize=255
r_TexAtlasSize=4096

I also toned down the sky lighting intensity in my new TODs (yesterday) and brought HDR values back to original (HDR level, brightoffset, treshold) to bring out Crysis 128bit HDRI as intended. Just bein playing both games and they still leave me floored and completly butt raped. 4xAA and 1440x900 and lack of TSAA barely disturbs as it only really is visible in limited cases or when zooming into palm leafs. Heck I changed some cvars to have less draw distance for full detail trees however I greatly increased draw distance for global vegetation and objects. Visual quality has greatly increased as the LOD valeus I had before was to much work for little difference at large distances however now far faaaaaar away you can see homongous amounts of vegetation and obejcts, rocks etc. I can almost even play with object LOD off and be in the smooth zone bar some hotspots hitting upwards 10m polys per frame. If you have shadows flickering just type e_vegetation_bend=0 and/or e_time_of_day_speed=0 and it will fix flickering.
