CryENGINE 3

As for the performance remarks, what he's said is RSX is 'low end' relative to 'high end gaming' and what developers are targeting, but with PS3 as a whole CryTek are seeing the system as 'high end' when you use the whole system architecture. Which is nothing new; just another developer confirming what many others have said. Though 'high end' isn't qualified, and there's no need for the PC Crew to come hear and say 'if you think your 512 MB PS3 is high end compared to my 16 GPUs megasystem, you're crazy!' :p The point here is 'actually, PS3 is pretty good, just hard to write for as you need to rethink how you do stuff.'

Obviously they´ve found a way to harness the SPUs of the Cell which cover up for the shortcomings of the RSX. Many other multiplat developers have failed at that.

That said, IMPRESSIVE DEMONSTRATION!!!!

They´ve certainly raised the bar for Id and Epic. Got to love competition. :)

What what they're doing for HDR on consoles? I'm guessing nao32 on PS3 but will they also use it on 360 as well when they could just use FP10 (lower quality but alpha blending)?

Maybe there was something in the slides that I missed that could give an answer. Off to look.

Hmm.....

That video was interesting.

I did see some framerate drops, shadows are running at full speed again, physics on the other hand kind of looked like they had a low update rate and still no trees or anything on the far land on the level from Crysis 1.

I'm sure he didn't really mean "low end" though, but rather a bit weaker than Xenos.

But the RSX is low end for a GPU (just like Xenos), just because it mid range for a console does not make it a mid or high end GPU.

BTW:

What was said in the video about the PS3 was that they are treating it on the same level as the PC and 360.

Wow  I'm really impressed. No tearing, fps acceptable & transparency in hd  on the ps3   congratulations crytek. You did it. :D This engine is an authentic miracle.

The IGN video linked in this thread has offscreen video of PC, PS3, and 360 running the game editor.

Thanks, yeah I saw that one. I was hoping for something more in-depth like the PS3 version. It makes a lot more sense for them to show the PS3 version to reassure multi-plat developers it runs great on the platform that's hardest to develop for.

Easily the best console graphics to date, incredible work.

I have not much to add to the discussion. Their work speaks volume for themselves. Just want to express my thanks to the Crytek team for devoting the time and energy to push the PS3 limit.

Have 2 questions:

Who on this forum "belongs" to Crytek ? :)

The other question is... at the beginning of the IGN video, one of the buildings has a large neon billboard that reads "Female Tiger" in Chinese. It's the equivalent of "Biatch" in English. Is she your boss or one of your girl friends  ?

I'm not sure why these latest videos are garnering such praise when theyre showing essentially the same thing as prior videos that were highly criticized here? Dont get it.

This new footage looks less impressive to me than old stuff, if anything. Which I always thought were among the best graphics on console, dont get me wrong.

Because they're happening in realtime editor, cross-platform, with realtime asset updates!

Exactly, "Engine" != graphics only.

Many of the comments specifically praise the graphics..the same graphics that at GDC seemed to mostly get a "looks terrible compared to Cryengine 2 even at medium settings yada yada no AF shadows update half speed terrible framerate ugh" reaction. Which I thought was silly. I thought the graphics were good then and think so now (though I'm less impressed with the new videos).

The same thing is occurring at Neogaf..lots of extreme praise for the new footage. I just dont get it.

But anyways carry on..
