CryENGINE 3

The synchronization with real-time editing is really cool. Wonder how that'll play out for Q&A as well...

I think the Engine would be very useful for the devs who want to do cross platform games, if they license it. May save them a lot of time.

Yes its offscreen but we can still see improvements. expecially see the place where the player comes out from indoor to outdoor for first time big difference to what u had in the previous CE3 footage.

I dunno, it looks exactly the same to me, just the difference between a direct feed and off screen source.

Well looks practically the same however IMO looks like they exchanged the skybox texture with the dynamic sky without clouds vs the older CE3 techdemo + changed TOD. However difference between PS3 and 360 is more pronounced. Like in video part 2 at 0:28.

Yeah at the risk of sounding inflamatory, I though the 360 version looked a bit better. Seemed to have better performance too.

It looks like fabulous engine for 3rd parties! Regards the differences, the obvious one is contrast, but I wouldn't pin that down to anything technical at this point. There are clearly artistic differences. eg. The fan shadows in the early corridors, the fans are spinning slower on PS3 which seems a non-technical difference. The only obvious advantage I noticed was better atmospherics on the XB360.

I thought we were all well aware of the differences in default contrast settings between the two consoles by now but yes, the 360 has a high contrast level setting by default, to the point where it loses color information in the output, and I personally think that'd better be left to the tv settings to deal with. What would have been really, really impressive is if the Crysis editor could also keep that in balance across platforms :D ... but that's probably impossible, and anyway people will be used to it to the point where they already have their TVs set up to deal with it, and that's only for people who have both anyway.

But enough of that - it looks fantastic. They did a fantastic job with the editing tools, the graphics, the effects. There are slight bits of pop-in still on the consoles, but overall very very good. I hope it also lends itself to other genres than first person shooters.

I presume the pop-in is more a matter of the realtime editing, and will be less prevalent in a finished game.

This looks very cool. I only wish they did something other then tropical islands... Rage and Brink has now shown how much difference good art direction can make.

:???: It's just more vsync ps3 vs more smoothness 360 or I'm wrong? For the rest I have just noticed differents tone of light/colour. imho

Is it me or was there a bug on 360 build which prevented it from loading dynamic texture changes from server?

Dont you guys find funny that history its repeating itself?

One time you have the id guys revealing its next tech and vision. Then the Crytek guys deliver a similar technology and earlier time. I.E:

Doom 3 its revealed first, heavy emphasis on Normal Maps. Farcry is realesed first with what Crytek called "Polybump".

Rage is revealed first, easy and transparent multi platform development. Cryengine 3, centering in simple cross platform development already shipping to devs. (if we take the press release as true). :)

The real-time multi-platform sync is awesome. The console versions are also looking much more promising than what previous console videos showed. It's a shame they're still using heightmaps for terrain but I can fault them too much if it allows iterating this fast! Yeah, I felt the visible popping was due to being in editor mode.
