Crazy fanguy predictions come true!

As I posted about it several times before G-cluster is already in service in Japan. You can try it out at this page
http://www.clubit-gc.net/portal/free/free.html
Open it with Internet Explorer and you see 2 small greenish boxes in the upper right. The left box is low-res, and the right box is hi-res. It's a free demo of BioHazard 3 (Resident Evil 3) for 20 minutes via streaming. If you click one of them you are prompted to install an ActiveX control. After you install it you can play the game via G-cluster viewer. It installs no game code onto your PC, only a streaming viewer. The control for the game is detailed in this page
http://www.clubit-gc.net/portal/manual/capcombio3jp_m.html
Enter is the key for OK, X + C is attack, V is for movie skip, dash by arrow + V etc. It's pretty responsive and I can play the game at around 10-20fps for the low-res version.

The non-free service for Capcom games contains not only static games but also action games including shooters. 1943, Onimusha 3, Ghouls 'n' Ghosts etc.
http://www.clubit-gc.net/portal/list/capcom.html

Anyone else get this to work? I get a blank window (but with sound!) and my CPU pegs at 100%.

And one, are you saying that the code is running purely hosted--the original game code is unmodified?

Sexy !

This is a different setup from what I have in mind. For the PS3 case, we will be using our own home network to serve out (upstream). The network environment is a lot more hostile than a professionally managed data center. That's what I meant by many things can go wrong.

I'm as excited as I can be. But I feel compelled to warn you against the perils of accessing home networks from outside. The experience may not be up to par with the Cluster, or may just plainly suck.

I'd like to see a paper of congestion vs throughput with FEC. First, inside your house, it will be far less of an issue. Secondly, 480x272 with jpeg frame compression at 20:1 yields a required sustained throughput of ~500Kbps, which means you have anywhere from 500k to 4.5mbps of FEC available. I think some crow eating will be in order.
Based on my own observations: 11g is fine as long as you don't live in a condo/apartment or the microwave isn't turned on, you don't have a lot of other b/g devices, and you don't have 2.4GHz phones. 11a is preferred unless range is an issue.

Both these links discuss the 11a recommendation from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mce/expert/bowman_extenders.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/extender/setup/homenet.mspx

But the bottom line is that typical interference is the main culprit with poor performance on b/g. YMMV, drastically in this case, but it held up accurate in my case.

Note the scientific drawing in the second link:
wireless_02.jpg

The internet is, after all, a series of pipes and tubes.

And one, are you saying that the code is running purely hosted--the original game code is unmodified?
Apparently key assignment is the only part modified from the original game. G-cluster itself is an independent technology.

This is a demo movie of Chaos Legion played on a set-top box via G-cluster.
http://download.bbgames.jp/4gamer/movie/gcluster_01.zip (8.3MB)

PS3 has the 7th SPE reserved for the OS. If it can do realtime H.264 compression, PSP can receive and decode it in realtime. G-cluster currently does software MPEG2 encoding at server-side. As the name indicates it has massive server clusters to do the hosting work.

G-cluster is owned by Clubit which is owned by Soft Bank.

Last year ClubiT did a test in the broadband network in Korea and the terminals include wireless PDA.

That is impressive.

Works fine here, though at a very slow framerate, but that's not very surprising as I'm in Europe. What's more surprising is that the response to the keys is still very good. Interesting technology. It's obviously a lot like Location Free Anywhere software that the PSP has supported for a while now, so no real reason to think this is very impossible on the PS3/PSP.

A few questions:

- Heavenly Sword slated for March

Isn't it? I thought it was.

+ Killzone 2: looks like "that" video

Not confiremd, so should be ~

- Heavenly Sword, Killzone2, LAIR: Q1 07 or later

This is true ... very generic, but true - Heavenly Sword is coming in 2007, Killzone2 isn't coming before 1 January 2007 either, and LAIR is slated for Spring 2007.

+ Oblivion "looks like entirely different game"

This one definitely isn't confirmed - the opposite in fact is more confirmed, with the shots we've seen so far. At best though this should be a ~ for now.

+ 350 titles in development

Certainly possible, but where was this confirmed?

+ only the best CELL wafers are used in PS3

Technically not true, as those would be the 8 SPE version reserved now for IBM's Blades?

+ North America 700,000 @ launch

This should be 400.000, but alright, he wasn't too far off. Still, can't really consider it true. The before Christmas figure is correct though, it seems.

+ PSP outsold DS+DSL by 1.2m (possibly NA only)

Confirmed where?

+ PSP PS3 remote control

Confirmed where?

Other than that though, a lot of good predictions, for sure.

Actually the guy said that Sony would ship 700,000 units in the first month I believe not on launch day. I believe that's what was said.

And yes you can access information on your PS3 using your PSP. Anything else though I'm not sure.

Au contraire, I would assume:

+ is good news.
- is bad news.
~ is neutral/indifferent news.

Yes, that's what they mean. Taken from a summary on Gaf.

I wanted to go through and see what hasn't come to be as yet. Like eye toy integration and EA not using blu-ray.

Here we go:

Things he's got right:
1. Resistance size
2. Resistance sound
3. Resistance weapons
4. PSP entertainment pack(exact spec, movie, game and mem card)
5. 700,000 machines for the us (later disclosed by Kaz) was this confirmed in this video : http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34239
6. Gran Turismo HD being a real game
7. Virtual Tennis looking better on PS3 than 360 because of textures. (he said sports game not VT3 but many believe this is the one since most people that have seen it say the textures in PS3 looked better)
8. Lair playable at TGS
9 PSP and PS3 new store opens where you can buy movies, games, music around November 11
10 PSP is an output device for PS3 (use the PSP as a TV and remote, WOW! would be amazing hopefully there is no lag)
11 GPS was delayed and now coming 12/7 for Japan which means most likely it will come in the summer for the US
12 Online service absolutely 100% free… no tiers, no subscription. like having Xbox Live Gold (well this is almost completely confirmed)
13. Reintroduce UMD to the masses with lower price and more features (Its japan in japan already)
14. Lair to use motion sensing controller at TGS.
15. Killzone to be shown closer to the PS3 launch. (sony confirms: Killzone: Liberation, which is coming out this Halloween. But shortly afterwards there might be some more information on the future Killzone project on PlayStation 3)
16. Lair demo at TGS to be amazing looking.
17 Full featured web browser and the PS3 will have native Keyboard and Mouse support
18 3rd party developers (EA, UbiSoft) have already announced their pricing schemes for next-gen games. PS3 games will generally cost the same as Xbox 360 titles
19 Silver PS2 later this year.
20 Oblivion for the PS3 (with better textures) OPM magazine.
21 Hinted at a late October Sony conference.

Things we are waiting for to see if they do come true.
* New play demo of Heavenly Sword to look amazing with more gore.
* Killzone finally shown late in october and looks like the target video.
* PSP emulator coming october (yay!)
* SquareEnix one of the first being approached for games on PS1 emulator.
* PSP many first party PS1 titles will be available
* Multiple online IDs (not just one gamertag), friends lists, rankings and skill-based auto-matchmaking, full online profiles, EyeToy and EyeToy HD integration (photo profiles, possibly video chat).
* On a later post he also mentioned that Square might announce another Final Fantasy Game for the PS3.

Speng.

This appears to be confirmed with the news from Codemasters about the Neon game engine co-developed with Sony and mulitplatform.
