Console Exclusives: Are you for or against them & why?

The SF2 games sold over 14 million & the SF4 games sold over 8 million. It might not be as big as it was but it's still a big deal & with the PS4 selling the way it has been selling without a real standout fighting game SFV could strike gold.
Although it'd likely sell as well to its fans without being a PS4 exclusive, and it'd get a 50%ish boost from selling on XB1. Whereas if Sony are publishing it, why is it coming on PC? Maybe PC sales were so low that Sony felt they could allow the devs to release on that without harming the benefits of their exclusivity deal.

It's basically a matter of trying to determine whether this was Sony money-hatting the exclusive to secure it, or whether Capcom are choosing to ignore the XB1 for the time being. One's more inclined to think the former but it does seem a bit odd. The price must have been reasonably high unless it's a fairly short-lived timed exclusive.

It could be Capcom evening things out after making Dead Rising 3 for Xbox One.

Just curious on which platforms did the SD2 sell 14 million and on what platforms did it sell 8 million?

Surely it's globally? Although I'd have thought SF2 would have sold a lot more between the SNES and Genesis versions? And all the other millions of versions?

Yeah, there were probably more versions of SF2 than there were sales.

Seriously though, the SNES version was the best, but the Megadrive (Genesis) one had a better controller. Six face buttons where are just perfect for SF.

Btw, SFV will support cross platform play and I believe (from what I remember) MS don't allow cross platform play. Maybe that's one of the decision on why SFV is exclusive to PS4 on console.

That kind of makes me think that it's all the more likely to come to XB1 at some point because really, how popular is the fighter genre on pc anyways? It could be a really cool marketing campaign as well, PS4 vs XB1 online, fight! That's long overdue.

They said it was never coming to Xbox One & that it was made from the ground up for the PS4 or something like that.

I think if it proved to be popular and one of the exclusivity reason is cross platform play, then MS might relax the policy for this game only. But then, other devs might want the same treatment.
I don't think making it from the ground up for PS4 is a good enough reason for it not to show up on X1 because it will also be released on PC which should be easy enough to port to X1. Of course it might be that their engine require the use of more than 32MB of fast memory and they don't want to invest on trying to optimize for ESRAM. Other factor could be that fighting games were more popular on Playstation (the dpad is great for fighting games), thus they don't bother on releasing it on X1. I also wouldn't discount the possibility of Sony buying the exclusivity, but it would be a weird move since fighting game can't really drive sales anymore.

I find the Ultra Street Fighter IV deal to be even stranger.

It's probably part of the package for the SFV deal or the SF team just don't want to bother with X1. Someone should ask CAPCOM and Sony like they ask MS and SE/CD about the Tomb Raider thing.

They only say no to Wii U. I think by not releasing SF4 on X1 they try to avoid the Tomb Raider situation where the previous title were already released on the console thus people expected to play the sequel.

Development partnership. Sony are co-developing the game with capcom. It's never coming out on Xbox one.

I believe this was a situation that was acceptable to all during the tomb raider debate.

I don't understand. Are Capcom in such a bad financial state that they need Sony to contribute to the development of their biggest franchise? How is this possible, and what does this mean for the future of the company?

Ah yes we even had a thread here about who should buy them, now I remember. Well I guess we might have an answer for that, if it ever happened.
