Sounds like this game is pretty insane. It's pretty much universally claimed that it runs better then their gaming rigs BTW.

"Infinity Ward developed this sequel on the PC, yet knew that with the Xbox 360's tech specs, their baby would, at least, run like margarine on the new console. But I refuse to believe that anyone expected Call of Duty 2 to run like absolute butter on the 360. In fact, I'll even go out on a limb and say that, side-by-side, I'll take the 360 version over the PC counterpart. Have I gone mad? Perhaps--but for the price of a rig that you'll need to get the latter up to speed, the former actually somewhat justifies the $300-plus tag on the Xbox 360. And with 720p widescreen support, normal and specular mapping, dynamite particle effects, and lighting-fast load times, you might not even miss your mouse."

Heh, i'll wait for Gamespot and Gamespy.

After Kameo 8.7 by Greg at GS, i've only 1 game left to choose, probably will go with the Kameo-Cod2 "Unlikelly" Duo.

The first two seem to be "8" level games, and dont impress me or reviewers that much graphically.

COD2 is getting raves so far, though. And the fact it runs so well bodes well for X360 power.

I guess we only have two lesser reviews, but both are incredibly positive.

Most likely the game I'm buying..

Hell the gamepro guy says he seriously doubts a better game will come out in X360's entire first year!

Teamxbox weighs in.

Yup TXB gives it a 9/10.

"Graphics

First off, let me just say that Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox 360 is superior to the PC version of this great game. Ask anybody at Infinity Ward and they will tell you the same thing. On that note, the smoke effects in Call of Duty 2 are worth the asking price of this game all by their lonesome. Whether the smoke effects are billowing from a burning building, seeping out of a freshly-fired artillery piece, erupting from an actual smoke grenade, or spewing from the frozen breath of your allied comrades, the battlefield in Call of Duty 2 is high-end particle effect heaven. You’ll understand a bit better when you walk into a cloud of dust and touch barrels with an enemy, even though you cannot see the opposing soldier at all.

Environments are given life with tons of finely-crafted scripted events and respectable texturing work all around. Life is in the details of course, and Call of Duty 2 gets much of its liveliness via the minute extras that may be naked to the untrained eye. You can see the perfect texturing of the Nazi war banners, or watch the world distort as you try and sight the enemy from behind a burning barrel. The snow falls to hamper your view. Or see how the blood splatters off of your enemy in the precise area he is shot, or the way in which the light catches the high spot on a gun barrel and gives away a hiding enemy’s position.

There are a few faults here and there in the graphic portion of Call of Duty 2. There’s some clipping here and there, and some of the textures in some areas are a bit low-grade, but for the most part, Call of Duty 2 brims with a look of World War-torn Europe that is almost real enough to reach out and touch. Well last time I checked an eight was a good grade but hey you don't seem to think so.

By the way what are you on???
PGR3 and Kameo own CoD2 with ease.
Both games I stated look real next gen while CoD2 only looks like a beafed up current gen game.

Wow..some of the TXB videos really confirm my belief that this game approaches Killzone PS3 trailer levels of mayhem.

Approaches it maybe but on par hell no!
Graphically I shouldn't even have to say anuthing cause I hope that's obviously.

Pgr looks to have a solid 9 rating

Kameo has a solid 8 rating if we take into account 1ups preview that is full of errors about rare .

Most of the sports games are around 8

So the launch is looking good , though not great

The only thing its really missing is an rpg and a fighting game.

However doa 4 i believe is the second week of december. So really just a 2 week wait for a fighting game. SO really only a rpg missing

COD2 has obviously not as many details/models as KZ2 trailer, far from it.

But why does COD2 look so nice ?

-60fps
-Nice animations; even if they are running "weirdly" , their animation is 10 times more realistic than pd0 for example or any other fps this gen.
-Models are well detailed, their coats look very nice.
-not shiny but well implemented lightning effects
-smoke
- lot of smoke/fog on screen make games look nice
-sound

But damn , they should license their smoke effect ! Its UBER nice !

I think i may rent this game if i buy x360 , but 70euros is

Just read the Gamespot Review. After yet another review stating 60fps (in splitscreen), I think the only thing left to possibly doubt are internal rendering resolution, AA, and AF. (and on that note, did Dave ever get a confirmation as to whether Xenos also does angle-independant AF?)

For some reason, I seem to remember hearing the 8 players was the minimum online, but that it could scale upwards with better connection speed. But maybe that's my imagination (was I assigned one of those?).

My thoughts on CoD2.

Pro's:
- 60fps obviously
- Good looking player models
- Good use of light bloom

Con's:
- Animations are very crappy IMO (don't even get me started on that overhyped PD0 ****)
- No HDR.
- Smoke (why does everyone like the smoke so much it's just 2D plates with some volumetric effects)

Wanna see some really good smoke effects look at Motorstorm, Killzone, I-8, MGS4 or any other PS3 game showed to date.

I think This game could have been a big deal had it been exclusive.
As it is not too exciting since it appears to be the same thing I've been playing since last month.

Good news that console -only gamers will finally get a taste.

lol, what percentage of perspective console buyers do you think have the capabilities to run this game at anywhere near X360 settings? 1%?

I have an A64 3000+ with a Radeon 9600 which isn't THAT bad and I have to run this at 640x480 with 2xAA, and it still chugs like hell, i can run most stuff that comes out half decent but this game just kills my PC.

Not sure why you're comparing in-game smoke to CG. MGS4 was in game, but I don't remember any real amazing smoke effects, if you can give me the rough time in the trailer I'll check it out.

That's some of the realest smoke I've ever seen in a game, I don't know about you.
