Castlevania: Koji Igarashi Interview

Koji Igarashi: Castlevania Interview

GI: With Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles getting approved, which means the game is more or less finished. When do you think we’ll hear about what you’re working on next?

Igarashi: I will be working on a DS version, but I am thinking of moving to the home consoles for the future. I will continue to use 2D for the DS version, but I’m still trying to figure out which console to do the home console versions. I think the Xbox 360 would be the best platform for the U.S. market.

GI: You wouldn’t make it for the PS3 and Xbox 360?

Igarashi: Yes, it’s one option. (laughs) But development would be very tough. The U.S. market is the biggest market for the Castlevania series, so I will give the first priority to the U.S. market. The platform will be the Xbox 360, since the PS3 isn’t doing well everywhere in the world. As you know, Konami will release Metal Gear for the PS3, so Metal Gear might expand the PS3 market. In that case, we may release Castlevania for the PS3.

God if it can match or surpass the production quality of "Symphony Of The Night"…:oops::oops:

I rather liked Curse of Darkness (which showed some growing pains, to be sure) and Lament of Innocence, though they seem to get a bad rap. I don't think ANY new Castlevania game can really strike the same chords as Symphony of Night did, especially since the scales are so much higher at this point. I do wish they'd try to aim an HD 2D affair at XBLA or PSN, though, instead of just the handholds...

I'd rather like to see any new 3D takes aim for new horizons... they just shouldn't abandon the old gamestyle that people love while doing it, which is the usual mistake companies make.

They need to bring Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles to the market place and store. I think they'd make far more money on this than a new 3d Castlevania.

They'll port it around, I'm sure. You can get Symphony of Night in all SORTS of different ways. ;)

Would probably behoove them to port the GBA titles, too, so long as they give it a bit of a graphical boost--they make for good impulse shopping games.
