'Blu-Ray is key for games,' says Sony's UK MD

huh?

that's what I was implying would be a problem for Sony (scaling down the HDD costs)

Ah ok, I think I got you now. You're saying that they would have done a no HDD core system if they weren't forced to because they use the incredibly slow 2x BluRay drive. But because the 360 uses the lightning fast 12x DVD drive, they can afford a no HDD core system ...

I'm not accusing, no, I think the load times may have been just slow enough to warrant it.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I am hypothesizing.

Hey... have a good day though 'k.

lol - I think they were "forced to" because they already knew it had to be expensive by deciding that bluray had to be in the system to win the hddvd war. This would help justify the high cost to the consumer at the counter pondering the "value" of each system.

Isn't that 6 gigs cutting it kinda close for 1st gen (some non tiling) games?

Serious question. How would or could Forza 2 or say PGR4 come on two disc?

I'm quite sure the disc format only applies to FPS (extension of offline mode or disc 2 for online play), linear RPG and games of that nature. Any sports games would need to be one disc. I remember that FF7 (was it PS1 or PS2?) came on 3 and it wasn't an issue to swap out the disc.

I'm very sure that a lot of the first gen titles on 360 aren't packed very efficiently on the disc, they may be 6GB but they could possibly be stored much more effectively.
