Bloodborne: [PS4] (From Software)

If I have a skill based character, why should I also bring strength over 20?

Once you hit the soft cap with the primary damage boosting stat for a weapon it can sometimes be more effective to boost the secondary damage stat of a weapon if it hasn't hit the soft cap yet. The whole diminishing returns thing once you hit the soft cap. And there are multiple soft caps, each one more severe than the last. So there's multiple points where it might be beneficial to upgrade a "lesser" stat.

Actually if you are good at parrying so you can get VAs in, the cane does pretty good against that boss. It's a very forgiving weapon to use as while attack don't do as much damage, they also don't drain as much stamina. And for many being able to dodge frequently while getting in the occasional attack works better for them than more powerful attacks with less ability to dodge after.

Heavy hitting weapons can net you faster boss kills, but require significantly more player skill to use well. Otherwise you just end up dying more often which negates the whole benefit of faster boss kills.

Probably a matter of personal styles too. Amelia gave me some trouble, before I got the Holy blade and levelled up, then I killed it quickly. After that the only boss that gave me trouble is that stupid Rom thing with the spiders, which was the closest to shameless CHEATING as the game got. Hated that bit. But all other bosses and hunters after that were kinda easy.

Well that's another thing with the Souls games which Bloodborne shares heritage with. Once you significantly outlevel the intended level range for a boss, the boss becomes almost trivial. That isn't to say you aren't good with the style of combat you're using. :D But you did mention you were close to level 80 on your first play through. Which is over 30 levels higher than many who finished their first playthrough. ;) Which isn't to take away from your playstyle. What matters is having fun, not how you have that fun. :)

I did the same thing for my souls games the first time I played them. I leveled like crazy and then bosses were easy.

Honestly it wasn't even a matter of me wanting to grind in order to then slash my way through everything. I'm just having so much fun with the game that it doesn't even feel like grinding. And the amount of accumulated echoes I lost by dying and dying again is ridiculous!

I would like to see someone skipping Cleric Beast at the start of the game, and return to it when character is leveled up to lvl50-100. That fight would be interesting to watch. :D Short but sweet.

Exactly my thoughts. i enjoy it so much that it isn't a grind to me at all !

and don't u say anyhitng about my Threaded Cane :devilish: its a bloody awesome weapon ! I would have won that fight too if I had used my fire paper and coated my whip in fire ! Totally forgot about that !

And, jokes aside, except for the Rifle Spear which is absolutely amazing , I couldn't find any weapon which was as versatile as the Cane. haven't found that Holy Sword yet. Lets see how it goes.

I switched from Cane to Blades of Mercy. They are great, but fire paper is not working with them. Maybe blades require higher Arcane stat to become enchanteable.

You can't enchant weapons that also have arcane damage or that already have elemental damage.

My Ludwig's blade now does 600 damage according to the stats.

Only chalice dungeons and final boss left.

I got some crystal thing that adds physical damage, should I use it on my saw thing +3 or save it for something better?

According to the wiki I think it is a low grade
Tempering Blood Gemstone

You can swap the Gemstones around as you wish, but only the hunters dream workshop. It's not a one time use item.

Anyone know at what point can I get a decent Arcane based weapon since my hunter is focused on Arcane? I have the torch but man that's just a torch, I need something like a staff or elemental sword or something. I'm currently at the 3rd boss, not defeated yet so maybe progress a bit further?

Blades of Mercy have arcane scaling. Seems to do fuck all for them, though. No idea where that arcane damage is supposed to be. I only ever seem to do physical damage. Your best bet would be slotting an elemental gem into a weapon with some decent base damage. At that point all the other scaling stats will become null and void, and the weapon damage will scale purely based on your arcane stat. You can make pure fire or lighting based weapons that way. Very handy for bosses. Eventually you'll get some very useful magic spells too, and don't forget that items like Molotov Cocktails have grade A arcane scaling on them.

The problem is that your choices as a pure arcane build are incredibly limited early on. The game pretty much expects from you to pump points into strength or skill first, Bloodtinge and/or Arcane second.

I'm in new game+ now. Did just about everything (witches, Cainhurst, upper cathedral ward, amygdala, Darkbeast Paarl, secret final boss, etc.) Unfortunately I missed the final weapon upgrade. Thing is, I have no idea how to get into all but the first Chalice dungeon. I have quite a few chalices all right, but I lack the items needed for performing the necessary rituals. Any idea where I can farm or buy those items? (my insight messengers only sell low quality ones)

Blades of Mercy have good arcane scaling, but player needs to first manually enhance the blade with magic. So either put some elemental gem in them for continuous damage, or use some arcane gear to put temporary arcane damage to it. My goal is to get Empty Phantasm Shell, but for that I will need to upgrade my Arcane stat to 15.

Wow you get spells? I have not touched the Arcane stat at all. Or Bloodtinge. Wtf is that anyway?

I'm starting to think I'm not as close to the end as I thought...

I thought I read somewhere that the arcane damage is only triggered after dodging and then attacking...not sure though?!

Funnily enough, all those "spells" use bullets as their activation resource. :) Firing Empty Phantasm Shell consumers 3 bullets.

Bloodtinge is the stat that governs the damage of pistols.

I don't think that's how the weapon's supposed to work. You use gems or enchantments to get weapons without arcane abilities to do arcane damage. Blades of Mercy already have natural arcane qualities. You cannot enchant them with fire paper, bolt paper or empty phantasm shells either. Besides, when you put a non-physical gemstone in them, you'll lose out on that tasty A grade skill scaling.

The game's certainly quite a bit bigger than I thought it was gonna be. I have like 50 lamps I can quick travel too.
