It would make AMD's decision to launch the 290X before having this driver somewhat curious, however; unless the drivers team somehow took everyone by surprise.

could have been a brilliant tactical move(doubt it). Knowing that NV would respond, create chips just above NV's. wait for NV response which is just above there cards and then release the new drivers.

This undercuts the GTX 780 by at least €110 (after a quick look at my favorite price comparison engine). I guess NVIDIA is going to have to cut its price again.

I would guess right now it is not the best time to buy a new card. I would wait first how the market would react to Mantle in December/ January and then most probably starts to settle at some sane price levels. Keep it patient

    Wawawacomagain? 20% is low?

In the US I can purchase an R9280X (290X is still not a purchasable product) for 300USD free shipping. How much does the 280X cost in Euros in France after tax?

Damn, it's practically a 290x for $150 less. AMD has gone wacko. They really hate making money

Now instead of the 780 Ti being compared to a $550 card it'll have to justify its $300 premium over the 290. Hopefully nvidia reconsiders.

A couple are available at Newegg through some link in the Hardocp video card forum.

    Sapphire R9 290.
    Asus R9 290

Ordered the Sapphire, have to support highend gaming at non-alien-probe prices :) .
