AMD "Do You Dare/Black"

Still the same damn pic!

Make your announcement already! Quit waiting for those lazy buggers on the West Coast what with their fancy Pacific time zone and all

Fudo thinks he knows:

The big new thing is Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition. The new CPU is unlocked, it is made on 65nm marchitecture and by default it works at 2.6GHz. It has a TDP of 65W and comes with 2x512KB L2 cache.

AMD upped the expectations and all we got was a refresh of a few years old core at 65nm and probably a nice heatpipe cooler, as seen on the 6000+.

He cites this source (it's in Japanese):

This is AMD's dark side? Horrible choice of marketing words, and I'm totally dissapointed right now. I was hoping for something like RD790 considering Nvidia and Intel are rolling out their new chipsets anytime now.

I was hoping for a simultaneous launch of RD790 & HD 2900 Pro, but it looks like at least the latter part will be a sort of "under-the-table" deal, not highly-publicized. RD790 should be hyped a bit more, but not as much as Phenom will be I imagine.

That's because the HD2900Pro will go EOL very fast.... And there is only a limited supply (talking about like 1000 per AIB here). Btw, the HD2900GT will be launched on October the 8th at $199.

I figured this card would have a very short lifespan, but I didn't realize the quantities being allocated to AIB partners were that low...

:D

3/4s R600's functional units & lower clocks or full R600 w/reduced bus width & lower clocks? Either way that's an excellent price. Say hello to the new X1950 Pro.

Where did you get the launch date from?

Why they have used the AMD Game! logo? Why the site is located on ati.com servers? And why they haven't updated the site yet?

From a reliable source who gets his info straight from an AIB. ;)

This is the same AIB who also came up with the releasedates for RV670 (mid november) and RV680 (januari 2008) and R700 (Q2 2008). So the lifespan of HD2900GT will most likely be 1 month or 2 months tops.

Thanks. I wasn't trying to diss you, just find out a bit about reliability.

I was hearing about a "2950 Pro" which they say is the RV670, but you're saying it's the 2900GT? Are the different vendors using different names or is the rumor mill just fucking up? :|

Thanks in advance for any info, and again for what you've already provided. :)

Both 2900Pro (320 SP) and 2900GT (240 SP) are based on R600. The 2950Pro/XT (320 SP) that you've been hearing about is indeed based on RV670.

If it came in a 939 socket, I might get excited... :???:

Yes me too. Except I finally went the whole hog and went Intel and my Fx-55 is now sitting there doing nothing on the side and has not been replaced by an AMD of similar speed with dual cores. This would have been perfect on 939.

AMD has made so many bad moves in the last 2 years it is unbelievable. Well desktop enthusiast wise at least.

As for Ati, the 2900Pro is a new release with a possibility of sweeping the middle to upper range segment and be a new 9500Pro, but instead it is only available in a small quantity. Go figure. Now is the time for ATi to actually get moving with something worthy of interest and not silly marketing websites.

A lesson from history, when nvidia brought out nv30 they got spanked. WaltC came in his pants. Then they quickly brought out a stop gap and then surprised most folk by having nv40 the equivalent of X8xx.

Ati/AMD has to do the same or else they are doomed. And WaltC will have mucho willy shrinkage.

And we don't want that do we.....
