A Few 9700 Screenshots

2) Pricing although high, is about the same as a Ti4600

Do you have any links? I was just looking at a few Ti4600s for under $250, if a DX9 board can be had for under $300 then I'm certainly interested.

Mwave is the cheapest in the US @ $369.00 for a 9700..www.mwave.com

Mwave is selling Ti4600's from $300 to $350 dollars.

Anyhow I was basing these comparisons when checking US online stores..a quality Ti4600 (Visiontek, Leadtek..not some OEM white box) are priced only 30-40 dollars cheaper than the 9700's debut price...I'm sure Hercules and Unitech will come in even lower.

I'm not understanding what you are saying, where is it that you are looking?

Ignoring cost completely and simply picking the best Ti4600- the Gainward GoldenSample VIVO board, it was just over $300 at NewEgg($278 on Pricewatch). Are you saying that the non VIVO R9700 is only $100 more then the best VIVO GF4Ti4600s? When you said that the R9700 was close to the same price as the Ti4600, I must have misunderstood you and assumed you meant that the R9700 was close to the same price as the Ti4600. If anyone knows where you can pick up a R9700 for under $300 I'm all ears :)

Wait about a month and you will...you can pick one up for $348 and your Golden Sample example is almost the same price...what the 9700 is 50 dollars more for 2-3X the peformance, what exactly is wrong with that ??

Actually Doomtrooper, the visiontek 4600 at oxycom is $475. Over a hundred dollars canadian cheaper. While I personally still think thats too high, its a significant difference. And will likely widen.

Oh and visiontek, MSI, and PNY 4600's are all going for $249-$269US vs the 9700's $360US.

Basically the two are NOT priced in the same category. And honestly, you cant tell me you really expected they would be did you?

Yes still only $75.00 dollars cheaper than the 9700 and 3 months old, notice final sale there too..probably due to the Visiontek forclosure and reduction in price.

GEFORCE4 XTASY TI4600 128MB AGP,
BILINGUAL FINAL SALE/NO RETURNS

Given the much smaller die size and the more mature manufacturing (for all parts), and the performance delta, I expect the price of the Ti 4600 to drop much, much more quickly than the Radeon 9700.

I seriously doubt the 9700 will drop below $300 before the NV30 ships.

(Although, for the consumer, I expect that the Radeon 9700 will be more cost effective, when just looking at pure performance with aniso/FSAA, than the NV30...which is another reason why I don't feel nVidia is in a bad situation in the long run)

I said priced competively and always HAVE, so $345 US is what $70 dollars more than the MSI..wow ATI is really gouging for 2-3X the performance . Alot of people stated that $599 was the MRSP
A cancuck that defends the market leader Canadian pricing, now I've seen it all...go have a few Canadians and think about it.

Would anyone like to guess how many times during the next month Doomtrooper is going to post that benchmarkpicture?

I agree, it sure is impressive, but I seriously doubt anyone with a Ti4600 would even play with that setting :D

I'm not here here to blindly defend anyone, sorry. I prefer facts, logic and unbiased reasoning. But maybe thats just me. ;) I dont have any problem with the 9700's price (aside from it being out of my range). Its the premier part, and past history has shown that the premier parts cost premiere money. The 4600 is no longer the premiere part and thusly its price has fallen out. A $100US+ difference is significant. But then so is the performance difference.

The two cards are on 2 entirely different levels, both from a performance and cost perspective. I'm not sure why you're trying to spin it otherwise...

Of course it will drop in price...it's called supply and demand.

The price of the 4600 will drop due to supply / demand pressures. It really has nothing to do with product cost. The 9700 is selling at prices where 4600 "used to", ergo, the 4600 MUST drop in price otherwise it won't be sold. (Why don't people understand this?) Selling price is based on supply / demand pressures, NOT product cost.

What product cost dictates, is simply the viability of the product. At some price point, the Ti 4600 does not become profitable to sell, or even becomes a money looser. At that point, the 4600 will stop being manufactured.

One is VIVO and one is not. Capturing screens using my previous method for console reviews is less then optimal, I'm looking for a permanent solution which will require a VIVO board under my current plans. A sub $300 DX9 board would convince me to deal with my current situation. An All In Wonder R9700 for under $350 could also do it. I actually haven't even considered a Ti4600 VIVO option as I can pick up a Ti4200 VIVO board for about $150 and a R8500 VIVO for about the same price and was looking to go with one of those. When you mentioned that a R9700 was about the same price, I took it that you were talking US prices and were serious. Sub $300 DX9 hardware I could convince myself to drop the extra money and give up the features, not for close to $400.

What scares me living here in South Florida are the people that are wearing tongs that have no business wearing thongs  Believe me its too much sometimes.

I think we will see the price fall a bit on these R9700 and since you can by them on-line for what $360ish here in the states already, one can assume that may hit the $300 mark in a month or so as board vendors try to out-do each other.

Ok is the leader for 3 months. That's the shortest reign for a "winner" I've ever seen. Winner is simply relative as to when you start the contest. If you start the contest in Dec, NVidia will be the "winner". Then if you start it in March, ATI might be the "winner" again. It's ridiculous.

The only real "winners" are the consumers.

Its going to be pretty funny around here in 4-5 months if the Nv30 does not deliver the goods..

There is an awefull lot of Rooster Strutting about a totally unreleased product. With no gurantee of supremecy. Especially if (when) Ati releases a 400MHZ DDR II 9700 to reviewers in december. :)

Even witout above said release. There is not gurantee that the Nv30 is the cats meow. I guess then we will see a lot of jumping ship to the Nv35... ;)
