$99 GC by September?

Get with it people. Quit crying about GC at $99 not including a free game. That game that Nintendo was giving you at the $149 price didn't cost THEM $50, so you are still making out more at $99. Plus you have the freedom to spend the money on whatever you want. What if you GC was broken and you just wanted to replace it? I actually GAME on my GC so this may happen someday, with well over 1,000 hours on it so far.

99$ after just a year? (EU launch was March 02)

looks like a last attempt to push the hardware.

From $199 to $99 in two years (November 18th, 2001 in US; September in Japan) is almost a natural cut.

It's also part of Nintendo's philosophy, or at least Yamauchi's Nintendo. They wanted to debut the 'Cube at $99 and make the focus 100% on games.. but it wasn't feasible until now.

Think about what you just said.

GC + Game @ $149 didn't cost Nintendo $50 in software, therefore the consumer is wins with (just) GC @ $99? That makes no sense. Why should we care about Nintendo's margins?

It's just a stunt, that's all. The highest selling GC games (Zelda and MP) were already being given away free before. $99 GC + $49 Zelda (or MP, which is what most people would buy) still adds up to the original price (ok, you save a DOLLAR).

I would have considered a Cube if it was say $119 + game or $109 + game (USD), but $99 w/o game is just a marketing trick. Chance's are it'll work for them too :?

But it's good for those people who didn't want one of the game choices that they offered. So for example now you can get any of the other existing or upcoming games not on that list.

What game would you want that isn't on that list? Really, the vast majority of people would pick one of them.. hard to argue that they wouldn't.

You'd be surprised at what some people have picked for a first game..

I know people that.. defying all sense of logic.. own a GameCube with no Nintendo games.

This one guy doesn't even have any exclusive games. All of the games he bought are ports, and mediocre games at that! SSX Tricky, Medal of Honor.. wait for it.. Sonic Adventure DX (worst port ever, maybe) and others like that.

It is to say the least rather surprising to see someone advocating that LESS choice is BETTER than MORE choice + saving a dollar.

Dude, are you serious? Where's the "stunt" in offering better choice + make a dollar on the deal?

There's just no pleasing some people... ;)

Grall: Actually, yeah. Frankly, I'm surprised at how close-minded some people are in gaming circles. People will weave around any argument to bash a game or console, sometimes defying all logic. It doesn't make any sense.

Right! Well when the numbers come in and Zelda/MP (with the GC) have record sales numbers, I'll say "I told you so". ie: the consumer isn't saving anything, and Nintendo makes off like a bandit.

$99 USD is the threshhold for impulse purchases, simple as that.
