[360, PS3] Crysis 2

On that GAF/forum thing...I'm so sad about Crytek.I mean,I'll be honest.I played leaked SP version yesterday, highest settings 1920x1080.Its really,by order of magnitude, best looking thing i have ever seen in my gaming life and that MP demo and shitty EA videos released are REALLY not doing them any favors.

People who haven't even played it are talking about blurry textures, shitty lighting, stupid AA and the thing I have played(SP) has NONE of that. The game screams with production values and Crytek will be damaged with this kind of publicity.Internet is raving like the game has AvsP visuals.

For anyone interested in what I'm talking about take a minute and look at this video starting at 4:05.Its even more mind blowing in person, believe me.There are some minor spoilers.

Here is another shot, highest settings 1080p.Their AA on PC is great.Very low performance impact and it works on all surfaces including trees.

I have played (and finished) the Leaked Beta and obviously played the MP demo (both at 1050P, hardcore settings etc). Both have exactly the same graphics quality (minus the boatload of graphical bugs and perofmrnace issues in the leaked beta). Crytek have only themselfs to blame here because they are actually going to ship a game (talking about the PC version here) that has worst grahical assests than their previous one which was release nearly 4 years ago (lower-res textures, no Parallax Occlusion Mapping, crappy physics, worst water shader/rendering, not even a DX10 path...) The only saving grace is the superbe lighting system, post process effects and AA. But even this doesn't change the fact that they are, IMO, shafting PC gamers (and PS3..just saw the MP demo running on a PS3 a few hours ago...ouch) with an XBOX360 port. I'm not saying that it's bad game, because it isn't. But technically it's far far from what everybody (on the PC) was expecting. ow waiting for the DX11 which should enable tesselation (for what? the water?) and POM (why is it present by default in Crysis and only availalbe via the DX11 path in Crysis 2?).

First of all those PC videos belong to the pc games section and also the leaked videos contain spoilers and probably not the appropriate way to promote the game. Just a thought.

Some more direct feed shots of ps3, a few high quality jpegs. They look alright, not overly disastrous as I've previous thought.

I just can't agree with you.I don't think anyone who played both will. There has already been couple of previews stating that MP doesn't have a thing on SP side of game and I also have my own eyes to judge it.

Both versions are done by different teams. One that made Haze and one that made CE3 and Crysis 1.You are talking about textures and I will have to firmly disagree on that since Crysis 1 had it share of lower resolution textures, much more than Crysis 2 has.
Crysis 1 interior lighting was flat as flat can be,Crysis 2 has absolutely gorgeous interior lighting.

What I think is that you haven't played Crysis 1 vanilla in last couple of years.Sure modded Crysis 1 will look better than Crysis 2 DX9 with locked shaders on medium but it will run 5 times worse. This looks to me like some people are extremely angry about the fact that some things don't suite their likes so they try to spread lies. For your information, leaked Crysis 2 was widely praised by people who played it,especially on graphical side. Most of the times only one answer could be seen and thats "Best looking game released" beside modded Crysis 1.We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Yea I warned about spoilers and I don't think one post will hurt for it to be on this section. If it does than I'm sure mods will remove it.

EDIT.

And I just saw that you said 360 port to PC and PS3.I don't want to offend you, but, have certain people had their head stuck in their backside whole this time?I mean, you have 80+ pages of talk about CE3/C2 I would think you already knew that technically there is no port.Designers build levels on PC that replicate in real time on consoles, there is no classical porting involved.

Sure, I'm spreading lies and you are right about everything, right? Keep tell yourself that if it makes you happy...

I understood correctly, are you sure are from the ps3 version? It seem more 360... too much define for 1024x720p framebuffer & too dark colour/contrast to be ps3 version...

I never said you lied,I said people lie.I meant on lots of forumers that haven't touched game or seen SP in single player.I thought Nebula already debugged BS with his own screenshots.

Anyway, yea I said we will have to agree to disagree on this one, thats all.

Yep, they're ps3 version alright judging from the glow effect on the HUD and distant blur which were missing from the 360's build. The sun shaft clipping the building at a distant also confirms the ps3 build. It's probably calibrated with more contrast by the user.

Ok. But I still stand by what I said though. The PC version of Crysis 2 is a (DX9) port of the XBOX360 version without some of the basic features (POM) that were present in their previous games. But it is still thebest looking retail game on on PC right now. Just not what it, IMO, should have been.

Well I would take Crysis 2 over Crysis 1 vanilla with POM any day of the week and who really knows what they are saving for DX11.

I guess people are upset because they feel the jump could and should have been much more considering the advances in hardware since first crysis. Anyway, thats a discussion that belongs in the PC thread.

Im wondering, besides daylight transitions is real time GI much of a benefit? I almost feel like Rage has the right idea outside of games that feature heavy destruction, most games including C2s environments are pretty static just seems like overkill in some ways and could have benefitted from higher quality baked lighting for less cost(though the cost may be minimal so bit of a moot point if so and quality is comparable). My impressions are from the demo though where the environments are pretty static, baked lighting could break down in sp maybe? Does realtime GI have any quality improvements, despite all the talk of amazing lighting the end result doesnt look any better than games like mirrors edge to me. Does it allow for other realtime effects like the bloom and lensflare, which wouldnt be accurate and have to be faked at lower quality with baked lighting(could explain their deliberare overuse!! :p)?

About the only benefit real time GI brings is developer convenience/ease of use as it saves them a lot of time and the other advantage would be that it'd be suitable for games with dynamic environment with destruction and changing TOD.

From what I've seen of Crysis 2 SP every level has a set TOD which doesn't changes at all, atleast from what I've seen till now I haven't seen the game have any 'trigger points' for TOD change like Crysis 1, I could be wrong though.

The lighting in C2 and the overall game look better to me than just about anything out there, so I dont see what theyre losing...

It would be one thing if it looked like crap, but the lighting is the best. Check out EG, the "Road Rage" 360 vid.

But I dont know if it could have been "even better" if they went baked...but I do know it's really good.

Okay, that clearly looks incredible for a console game (regardless of platform), what's all the fuss about?

Oh certainly, im not trying to say the lighting looks bad at all. Just interested in what realtime GI approximations bring to the table in comparison to baked GI, and what potential negatives there may be along with the positives.

Framerate. And IQ isnt great, looks better in those screens but from what ive played its not very good in motion. Could be those shots are taken with no character movement in which case TAA isnt in play in the same way.

About the GI, the main benefit is for developers. Seeing the effects of your lighting setup instantly instead of having to wait minutes-hours is quite a benefit.

Are u sure there have been no tweakings in photoshop? Cos, they look mighty fine to my eyes, yet, I see everybody saying it looks crap on the ps3.

360 iso (or whatever you call pirate version) =6.5GB, PS3 one =5.14.

1.5GB less?

They are up on pirate bay now.

Only ~600 peeps dling 360 version on PB though, as far as I know that doesnt sound like a ton.

Good god, More great news for PS3 owners. The beta has officially ended. Crytek has pulled the plug. They identified 'the' problem and decided to fix for the games release!
