[360/PS3] Call of Duty: Black Ops

Perhaps none of the maps are large enough where a Sniper can hold up without being hit by automatic weapons with faster rates of fire by gamers emptying entire clips using the "spray and pray" method of fighting? I know that MW2 was broken in that regards. Perhaps it carries over to BO.

Theres plenty of elevation in most of the maps for snipers to do there thing. Now granted you wont have ideal spots on every map but there are quite a few....
Now I'm not saying that any COD title was ever shooting to be realistic but c'mon quick-scoping? really?

hm, from a pure objective engineering level: if parity was really on your agenda...you clearly did not succeed, IMHO.

IW were successful at parity, while Treyarch weren't. There are skill, experience level, and/or team size differences between the two studios with respect to PS3 development.

Who's developing COD8?

My copy arrived today and I went on playing the campaign. The low resolution is noticable, but other than that, I didn't notice any framerate or tearing problems. If DF didn't exist, I'd be happy to play the campaign of this game. It's not really the 60fps that makes a difference for me, but super stellar production values, when compared to something like the BC2 campaign. Congrats to Treyarch on making a fine game, even though PS3 version is less than stellar.

This game is pretty much on rails just like UC2, so I'm sure it could have been a whole lot better on the PS3 with more time and experience. I don't know if they're using HDD+BD streaming, but it could easily be used to alleviate memory problems.

This online is awesome so far.
Instead of the mw 2 spawn raping(on every map) so to say.
Here it stays quit right some spawn places are fucked but the kill streak except on Nuketown are okey.

That's only because the game is new and people havent learned spawns. Anyway, you gotta suck ass to allow yourself to be spawn raped.

Never ever had an issue with that in any Cod game, aside from my stupid teammates getting killed and me loosing team matches because of it

Mw2 was not broken for snipers. It just required some skill to learn quickscope sniping with the intervention :)

Especially on hardcore modes where you can 1shot, sniping was actually very good if u mastered quickscope.

Some of the smaller maps may perhaps not been the greatest with regards to sniping, as cqc is usually best done with automatics!

Removing quickscope thought makes sniping terrible as cod is to fast paced without it.

Cheezedoodles, yes of course because that's how real life snipers work ... in that regards the snipers class is broken even in MW2. Now if BO removed that, it's even more broken.

Quick/NoScoping has been around since CounterStrike. It was crap then and it's crap now. CS got so bad that for a long time it was "if you can't beat them, join then." Everyone would run around with a AWP/Deagle for fastswitch sniper shots. Thankfully, because it's PC, no AWP servers came up quickly and made it fun again. No such options on consoles so good to see Treyarch do something about it.

Sniper was always designed for a support role. Not running around no scoping...

MW2 seems to look alot better on my tv, maybe its the resolution loss.
Just finished the campaign on the PS3. Going off memory, MW2 was definitely sharper, and the graphics were more consistent. I found some parts in Black Ops (lighting in particular) were pretty nice, though.

AS for the campaign, I actually liked it quite a bit.

Something I found odd, was the game seemed too bright even with the brightness slider all the way down.

The ps3 version looks very bad imo. I remember seeing MW2 for the first time on the ps3 and thinking this looks good for a subHD game. Watched my son play MW2 yesterday so it is fresh in my mind and it still looks good. Gave this one a chance even after seeing all the bad stuff about it and its true its blurry as hell. Can't say I am too impressed with the lighting but my son is only an hour in. Is the lighting better in the 360 version also? And look at the ground textures on the ps3 version...very bad. I am going to change my ps3 setting to 1080i maybe that will help.

Black Ops (IMO) is very inconsistent on PS3. Some levels look good while many look very bland. Some levels look blurrier than others, too. Comparing MW2 PS3 to BO PS3, MW2 definitely looks better IMHO. The inconsistency, blurry image (probably from the reduced resolution) and low res textures make it look worse to me. I didn't necessarily say the lighting was better either, just that it looked good on some levels. But I'm not the most technical guy, so this is based on my untrained eye. Overall, I'd say the graphics are still good. What really hurt the image quality was the resolution drop. I was fine with the performance and how it played.

Also, as I added in my post above, the brightness in the game seems to be off. Even with the slider all the way down, I had to reduce the brightness on my calibrated TV. Most games are fine by default, or at most, I'll have to move the slider a bit from center.

With a chopper gunner and the airspace full of killstreaks getting spawn raped is not something you can easily control yourself.

Most of the time i just go coldblooded and try to shoot down the heli.

Cheezdoodles, you really should play on Live and see how you can compete - competition there is much harder in my experience compared to PSN!

I never play the SP in CoD games but always try out the first level or so.

Popped in the SP of Black Ops and WOW, WOW, WOW the graphics blew me away, the tension was top notch and to me was the best 45 minutes of SP FPS game play in a while. I can see it getting repetitive but those first couple of sequences were some of the best I've ever played in a game. and BEA-U-TI-FUL.

MP is addictive as ever and reminds me of the best of MW1 and WaW sprinkiled in wioth the good parts of MW2, minus all the bullchit of MW2.

Black ops just doesnt feel right to me . . . It takes too many bullets to kill people.
I think this, in a nutshell, is the biggest difference between MW2 and BO. There is no Stopping Power perk, and you can definitely feel that it's missing. It's why you really need a high ROF weapon IMO.

I haven't really found a weapon I like yet.

If you really are as good as you claim to be, I think you'll really like BO MP. If you can nail quick headshots, you'll absolutely destroy in MP. It takes more bullets to kill, so headshots are supremely important.
