[360, PS3] BF:BC2 and BF 1943 online

The 360 demo looks like ass. I can't believe people are "oohhing and aahhing" over this. MW2 looks so much better imo.

Well the PS3 beta looked Kickass ! THe characters looked almost Crysis like with the awesome sunlight that BC has always had.

And I don't remember any bad trees from the ps3 beta. I'll chk the PC beta when I get time.

Wasn't BF:BC with better textures on the 360? I don't think that it can look woorse on the 360 than the ps3, since the first one only looked better. Even the PS3 version was awesome in the gfx dept.

Textures in PS3 ver of BFBC were indeed inferior to the 360 ver but it was a marginal difference, other than that it was almost like to like.

Also the PC ver too doesn't looks any whole lot of different than the console ver. apart from the obviously higher resolution,an "extremely" subtle AO & AA that doesn't seems to help much given the A2C fences & foliage [everything else is exactly the same, this includes textures, effects etc etc]

Whoa ! No high res textures in PC beta? Why am I downloading the beta then ?!?!?!

It got decent texture res for several surfaces although I find it amusing level data as in textures etc are ~170MB and the rest is HQ sound files 850MB and videos etc for the last ~350MB.

LODs etc are improved and more. Might look subtle at first glance but it still makes for a decent change to the better. Though a beta but I hope the fooliage can get TSAA for final and that MSAA does apply to all surfaces and not just as now not all. Still makes for a large difference especially in motion where I dont need to separate heads from jaggies! :)

havent played ps3 beta but from what i saw from the vids i agree with you. X360 demo just look bad.

Yea I did some more "research" & turns out LOD in 360 ver is set to medium, the first harsh change occurs after 20 steps or so in Medium same as in Xbox 360 [no idea about high but its definitely more by a considerable margin], its good that its not just a random pop in but a fade in; so not that hard on eyes. Shadows seems like medium & high at a mix. And I don't have a single clue about effects setting.

And yea Textures PC or consoles are decent enough I was just saying you don't get uber high rez ones on PC :)

Just lurked on the BF:BC 2 official forums and some people there think that the 360 demo build is a slightly changed E3 build(same level and such). Mostly because ps 3 beta had ragdoll physics,Better destruction and the controls were better.
And most people do find the graphics to be lackluster from what DICE have seen use in there videos using the 360 controller. Its a shame they wont let me unlock more stuff like the scopes.

I know its a demo.

Because it's actually fun to play as a sniper, I really find the trees/shrubs distracting. Just a blocky, pixelated mess.

Also, the smoke is just horridly ugly. And there is a lot of it. I'm not sure if DICE is proud of how completely they can obscure the player's view, or if they intentionally do it for gameplay purposes. Very distracting. The fire isn't very convincing either. Seems like it has too much of a "white-ish" color, not enough orange and red. Bleh.

Gameplay-wise, it seems fine so far. I've tried all the classes and they seem to work well, although it looks like the sniper can unlock a mortar stike in the retail, so I can almost guarantee that is going to suck given the offense/defense gameplay. Defenders have to camp, so they'll just rain mortars on the defense ad nausium.

One cool thing is that the offense seems to have the advantage, which I guess is nice for a change. Even a marginally coordinated offense (one squad even) can pretty easily win.

Overall I think the gameplay is decent, but visually the demo is a dissappointment. This is not the way to sell a shooter to 360 fans.

All I can say is that EA/DICE better pray that IW doesn't put vehicles in the next COD game.

Yeah gameplay is okey but a lot of people somehow think the graphics are lackluster compared to the video i will still buy it. I remember the mortar strike in the original BC it wasn't really gameplay killing.

what? i have never seen such cool deaths and body movement. I thing the graphics look amazing (sans blocky leaves) considering the scope and amount of details and lack of AA

Dont get me wrong but i just wrote what some people on the BF:BC forums wrote.
For me personally the game is a day 1 buy.

In the ps3 version you can stick drive the tanks I wonder why they changed this. Also with the ps3 version looking better I think we should wait for the same map I think it is suppose to be released next week.

The mortar was a big problem in the PS3 beta, but in the PS3 beta also had a huge problem with tanks (tanks could shell objective houses from beyond line of sight and clear out pairs of objectives without any real risk).

Yeah, the vehicle controls are piss poor, but they always have been on the console versions of BF IMO. Stick controls would be a huge improvement. As it is, I have to drive with my index fingers on the shoulder buttons and my middle fingers on the triggers, which just feels awkward, but it's the only way to drive and shoot at the same time. And you need to shoot and move with all the damn things that can kill a tank (UAV, Attack heli, RPGs, stationary rockets, mortars, etc).

I do like that the tank is actually a useful part of the game now. It is good for blowing out walls, taking down heavy machine gun nests, and suppressing the enemy. People actually crap their pants a bit when a tank rolls up, which is how it should be.

I have to also say I don't like the "spotting" feature. This should be mapped to a more accessible button. The Back button is just to hard to get to in combat, especially when you need perfect line of sight in order for it to register.

Port Valdez is pretty hard to defend also, unless the attackers are just a bunch of lone wolf Rambos. Even the smallest amount of coordination by the attackers renders defense very hard if not impossible.

I wouldn't be surprised if DICE wants it that way. Generally offense/defense games aren't that fun because too often it devolves into a stalemate. It's a hard thing to balance I guess, especially given the variation in the skills of random players. Most people online don't work as a team, so a game designed on the assumption that everyone will usually turns out to be more frustrating than fun. That's why IMO it's important allow for some amount of lone wolfing, even in a team focused game. It keeps it fun even when you're teammed with a bunch of wankers.

I've thought about this as well and really think it's a conscious design choice as it makes spotting an active game choice in lieu of firing on people. IOW, it would make spotting too easy if mapped to a button that allows other actions. This way if I decide to spot, that is an action that I must choose to engage in as a spotter rather than a shooter.

I am finding though that either most people don't know about it or just want to keep shooting as I seem to be one of the few people spotting on my teams ever. Fine with me as I rack up 20 points a pop. :D

I can certainly understand most players avoiding because it's risky, especially if the enemy you're spotting sees you. I spot more as a sniper because I'm naturally farther away from the fracas.

Okay, I've bitched enough about what I don't like, so here are the things I do like.

The classes. I think they really fit most peoples' playstyles well. A two man team of Assault + Medic is a really effective assault/defense force. More people just makes it better.

The general design of the offense/defense gameplay. I like how attackers get tanks/UAV/rapid transport vehicles right away. And as hectic/frustrating as it can be for defense, I do like how defense gets access to armor/attack heli/etc as they get pushed back. Definitely gives the game a "last stand" feel.

this game owns my soul... I know all the perks are not unlocked yet but the balance is the best I've ever seen and the speed and pacing and insane amount of things going on at once without ever a slowdown or hiccup are truly impressive.... Repi.... you are gods among men and the lack of AA is not an issue after a couple of days of getting used to it but I would have LOVED 2xAA. :D

Do you feel as if you are overwhelmed at times? sure but just as quickly you can recover and with smart tactics and some teamwork you can fight back... incredible...

again, the explosions, smoke, particles, snow, mist, fire... bullets, rockets, vehicles... and THE SOUND, OH MY!

Like being in the end scene of Save private Ryan movie in each round. Absolutely amazing!
