[360, PS3] BF:BC2 and BF 1943 online

finally was able to connect to many games in a row and wow.... improved in every conceivable way from BC1... I absolutely love this game already :)

I checked my NAT settings, which are open... in the help faq for 360, it seems they've added a couple more ports. 80 & 53. Will check in a bit.

Played the demo for 3 hours in a row and I love every second of it..Vastly improved over the original. If anyone wants to play with me my GT is ProneMrMeaty....

Anyone else noticed the foliage being Alpha to Coverage ?
I can't remember the PS3 beta correctly [did it even have enough trees ?] But in a map heavy with foliage like this its a bit distracting.

Whats the PC ver like ?A2C there too ?

Whats "Alpha to coverage"???
Never heard this term in my life as a CG artist  !
How does the demo compare to the ps3 beta? It looked freakin sweet on the ps3 itself :) !

Well its basically a technique to render alpha transparency at a much lesser bandwidth cost, the side effect is that it makes the alpha texture looks dithered with an interlacing like effect. [which is ugly looking in most of the cases]. To most obvious example to observe this would be to look at the hair on FF13 characters.
Here's a foliage with A2C:

-------EDIT--------
I find it odd that they're using A2C instead of just alpha test because neither version is even using MSAA. Wonder if repi is around to comment on this... ;)
Indeed & when you see that the 360 has a die Ram you wonder even more as per why they used it.

Well, they'd have to sort all the geometry with alpha blend, maybe not so nice with the open battlefield as such (including the destruction). Alpha test doesn't require sorting, and it'd be just as aliased as the rest of the edges on-screen anyway but sans dithering.

Mm...

No, no A2C.

After 4 hours of play I think its really distracting,I need to sit away from my TV to make it bearable which isn't possible given my small room. BFBC1 had smooth alpha on both consoles btw & there were levels with lot more trees & foliage than the ones in this beta.

10 minutes more & I'll be playing the PC beta. [hope to see decent performance with high-mid visuals 1440*900 2*AA/8*AF & HBAO turned on] :p

Yes strange as it aint that much vegetation in this map. As for playing on PC even lower-end gaming PC will run it well at higher settings bar HBAO. For some reason HBAO roughly cuts your framerate in half for IMO not worth the visual increase as it is to subtle and adds to little in this map. Though being a beta and having debuggers running in background that hamper perfomance greatly aswell as for now not proper MSAA/TSAA (doesn't work correctly though better than none).

game is a big let down for me, kinda slow and very confusing. Hard to spot enemies most of the time im getting killed by horde of camping snipers. Kill cam is bad watching a reply of a guy in 3p view ??.
Graphics dosent look as good as i expected after watching ps3 beta or memories trailers. Slow, not very funny to play and very averge looking. Thats my impressions after the demo. I'll stick with cod.

I had am amazing run today, played the whole match & died for only 6-7 times and racked up 3800+points in one single match :) Lots of multi kills obviously. And all while playing Assault.

You've got to spot targets to mark them for the rest of the team. Seems most people haven't figured that out yet. You get assist points if you spot a target that gets killed.

Few things were removed unnecessarily.
Like the Target Spotted, Enemy Armor, Enemy Gunship remarks given by your player which gets displayed as a written message on the screen [whenever you aim at the enemy/tank/chopper]. This has been a key feature of BF games since like forever & even BFBC had this. (I liked it since the game had no verbral command options as the PC BF games)

It's in there. You just have to press a button to do it. When you're aiming at something, press the back button (on xbox, I guess select on PS3?). It'll put markers on your target, and you will announce "Sniper spotted" etc. If you spot something and it gets killed/destroyed, you even get experience for a "spot assist."
