Not only that but arent european and other people not from the us screwed as well because we dont have gamestops. Hate those preorder bonus can understand the beginner armors and stuff but locking out a multiplayer mode is just stupid didn't Army of two 40th day did it as well.

The EU guys are the lucky ones. Hopefully Dice/EA considers Canada part of the EU ... This is one time I'm hoping the US school system has failed, and someone with little understanding of geography is making the policy for Canada.

Could there be a technical reason for this? Not sure why it would be the case but perhaps they are trying to limit or spread out peak server usage?

No its a montary reason only.
There is no difference in server usage regardless of gamemode (as long as same amount of players are supported)

What the hell is up with EA screwing over the (arguably) largest potential customer base? Did GS work a behind the scenes deal with EA to share some profits from used game sales? Why else would they do something like this?
No problem here....looks roughly the same as PS3 beta. [still acing for a PC beta key to see the game with AA lol]

Yeah i had that same problem.
Could join again after 40 min of mw 2.
The server are over saturated with demo players has been with every bf release
finally was able to connect to many games in a row and wow.... improved in every conceivable way from BC1... I absolutely love this game already
it feels like a real battle, enough space between kills to not feel like MW2 -kill, kill die, respawn, rinse repeat (or die, die die, kill) - yet enough action to not be idle or bored.... improved accuracy and less bullets to kill, better graphics, more effects and [particles, unreal sound, squad oand kit options and leveling upgrades.... wow wow wow,.... if they actually support this with new map packs (unlike BC1) this will be my online shooter for a year or two.
