[360, PS3] Batman: Arkham Asylum

That's why I said the gameplay is straightforward and simple in my early impressions.

It suits my lifestyle, so I'm not going to complain. :)

EDIT: What the... Drjay24 removed his post.

However, and this is slightly off topic (sorry), go with the controller you prefer and call it a day. The Joker content is incredibly oversold for the masses. They're based on the stock Batman missions (but he does have his own animations).

Playing as the Joker actually makes for quite a difference, especially in the stealth missions. During brawls he plays essentially the same as Batman, but with vastly different timing.

I agree about the controller part regardless. The game looks great on the PS3, with aliasing issues being rather hard to notice actually. (probably because the game is generally very dark)

I don't really understand the 'mash away on square' comments, though. The knife guys will block almost any square attack (interrupting your combo) and you'll outright take damage if you attack the taser guys head-on. I could buy it if someone said that you can get through most of the combat using just evade and strike -- you won't rack up many combos and things'll be slower, but probably safer too.

Isn't there also exclusive Joker challenge mode DLC for the PS3? (heard that in Gamers with Jobs podcast this week) And a bunch of fairly decent making of stuff available under the video icon? (heard that in Player One podcast this week - it seems to use some interesting form of mixed BluRay Movie and Game content).

Really!? I haven't even looked for that! :O Will look tonight.

Finished the game a couple of hours ago (360).

I enjoyed it, probably gonna keep playing some challenges too and maybe try hard difficulty. A nice mix of stealth and combat, pretty straight forward but surprisingly addictive, graphics are basically Gears 2 with Batman instead of Marcus, cutscenes mediocre in direction and story/writing/acting sub-par, cartoon network level at best (which is probably what they went for). The island is very detailed and the many secret paths really give you the impression of "big" which is good.

Ignoring the mediocre narrative, nice game overall, maybe 8/10.

I'm a little annoyed. I can complete the first stealth challenge in only 45 seconds - BUT I can't do it while also getting all the three medals. Fine, you'd say, but it won't even record my time now :(

I wanna bet this is an opinion that is going to be more prevalent in Europe and deep's more prevalent in the U.S. ;)

Deep's from Europe....and by ANY standard, Mark Hamill's voice acting is at the very pinnacle of video game voice acting. I'd even put his voice performance ahead of Heath Ledger's in The Dark Knight. it's even just as good as Jack Nicolson's Joker.

Now some of the others aren't as good - like Batman's - but he doesn't get to show it off.

In my opinion - the game is a showcase for The Joker and all the hours of dialogue Hamill's recorded for the game...I just can't see it being any better, even if it was performed by an Oscar winning actor.

Deep's not in the US, though.

I didn't say either one of them was from anywhere. Just making a sweeping generalisation, based on the availability of the cartoon series, the popularity of batman, the popularity of this type of game, of the actors involved, etc.

Hopefully then Europeans will show Eurogamer's spirit and rate the game up because it's from Europe (lots of French names among the QA testers).

Yes, I think Joker's performance is stellar.

While I mentioned that the gameplay is straightforward, it does not mean it's easy (or too easy). Still playing through the game very slowly. :)
