And c'mon, where's the Linux news!
Presumably because it's the most widely supported way to connect to 1080p displays. Looking at the XB360 1080p talk, there's concerns how many 1080 set owners can connect up the XB360. Lots of 'em don't have 1080p component support. Not only movies are 1080p, but we're hearing of a few games doing that too. If Sony really want to push 1080p (and sell more of their TVs) they need people to be able to connect their PS3's up to them, and it looks like HDMI is the connection of choice. If it only adds a few bucks, and simplifies production a little, it makes sense to me. And it drops the entry-level price considerably for those who were keen for HDMI. For games and movies, the low-cost PS3 is enough. The high-cost is for those who want the extra-and-as-yet-unknown production software and ancillary features.Any chance we will ever know what the real reason for adding the HDMI is?
My main question ultimately comes down to whether USB WiFi adaptors and USB card readers are supported out of the box. Hopefully this will be answered before launch rather than after...

- Ken Kutaragi announced that the 20GB version of PlayStation 3 will come with one HDMI port, and the 60GB version will have two HDMI ports for super letterbox display on side-by-side HDTVs. The 20GB version will be sold for 49980 yen in Japan on November 11, 2006.

However if PS3 REALLY is region free gaming, I'll be damned, I'll be the first one to import it from Japan.
I think you'll have a unit sooner if you decide to wait for the Euro launch.
Sooner perhaps, but for cheaper no.
Not sure. I'm wondering right now if the E3 price announcement maybe has something to do with a very clever PR trick.
I think we might be in for a surprise.
*crosses fingers*
wow! did I just read a couple of times in this thread that Wii is the reason that Sony drops the price?
come on dudes, you are smarter than that !!!!
