Where is the complex background that's supposed to be there? Looks to me like a blurry spherical environment box. Maybe it's just because of a depth-of-field effect?
I like the rough detail on her pants/top, but I feel the skin and hair rendering take a back seat to Nalu (skinwise, I think it takes a backseat to Dawn)
However, it could be a function of style, since the overall look of the character is Anime-like, ATI might have purposely chose a skin shader to give a non-photorealistic Anime-look to it, and the hair of course, fits right in with "Japanese straight-perm" style.

Of course it's nothing impressive compared to Nalu's swirling hair, but then it doesn't cost 200,000 polygons either.
The pictures are supposed to be wallpapers (look on the first image and you will see that it is from gamewallpapers.com). As such they would want to have a blurry background otherwise if you use it as a wallpaper it would be horrible (assuming you have icons on your desktop).
Looking at the Nalu and Ruby screenshots side by side Nalu definatively looks more realistic but there was obviously an artistic choice made here to make Ruby a little more stylized. Nothing wrong with that. I just hope the demo overall turns out interesting.

Yeah, definately not round enough, but at least she has an ass instead of the back end of a fish. Nalu *nearly* has reasonable buttocks, but then she turns into flipper.

The modeling of the whole thing is pretty bad even for a cartoonish style. The arms, elbows, shoulders, shoulder blades, spine, waist.... all of it is just odd. Perhaps those are some very non-flattering awkward poses? Or maybe they should employ some new folks to write demos next time around.
Seriously, why does ruby have another "helmet" of hair (a la dawn and dusk) if the card is so powerful? The 6800 nalu demo had pretty close to realistic hair (it was still a little too stiff looking in my opinion) but the next ATi can't can't even do that? Is this an indication that the shader performance is substantially lower or less featured than the 6800, or does it just mean they never thought to give her long hair. (she doesn't really look any more realistic than dawn or dusk like this, though, so what's the point?)

The first pics I saw of Ruby she looked like a lesbian softball coach to me. I much prefered the slutty elf sisters at NVDA.
