Nvidia Geforce Drivers Release Announcement thread

Game Ready for GeForce RTX 5090, GeForce RTX 5080, and DLSS 4

This new Game Ready Driver supports the new GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs and provides the best gaming experience for the latest new games supporting DLSS 4 technology including Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Outlaws, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Further support for new titles leveraging DLSS technology includes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

They don't specify which DLSS 4 features said games support though? Is it MFG, or just meaning "officially supported overrides" like transformermodel?

So, if you want to try the new DLSS on a game, it either has to be supported by nVidia (to change it through the app), or you need to go the inspector route, correct?

There are overrides for Super Resolution, Framegen and Ray Reconstruction. RR override is available via DLSS Override - Models Preset tab. Framegen is available only on 50 series, it's greyed out for me.

BTW, Nvidia released a new Transformer Preset, K. Both J and K belongs to TNN branch. It's labeled as "Latest" in the Nvidia APP or as 0x00FFFFFF in NV Profile Inspector.

But Overrides are feature specific per game, as seen here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/nvidia-rtx-games-engines-apps/
So game can support override x but not y

To clarify my original point, DLSS 4 includes several features. NVIDIA says these games support DLSS 4. Does that mean they support all those new features, some of them or is just one enough? Can user know which features each support without referencing the list I linked?

Yes, you can adjust settings per game, but not all features. It can override what the game already supports—you can’t force a new feature, but you can enhance what’s already there. I’m currently playing Dragon Age: Veilguard. I can override SR and FG, but not RR, as the game doesn’t support it. Nvidia's table in the original post shows which games allow you to override specific features.

NVIDIA Smooth Motion Now Available

NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a new driver-based AI model that delivers smoother gameplay by inferring an additional frame between two rendered frames. For games without DLSS Frame Generation, NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a new option for enhancing your experience on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs.

To enable NVIDIA Smooth Motion, select a compatible DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 game in Graphics > Program settings of NVIDIA app. Scroll down the list of options on the right to reach “Driver Settings”, and switch Smooth Motion on.

NVIDIA Smooth Motion can be applied to games running at native resolution, with super resolution technologies, or other scaling techniques, typically doubling the perceived frame rate.

That still doesn't answer my original point though, what exactly does NVIDIAs mention of DLSS 4 support in case of these handful of games mean

If it will be the same as it was with DLSS 3 then them stating that a game "supports DLSS 4" will mean that the game has explicit control for MFG as this is one new feature in DLSS 4.
They've used DLSS 3 in the past when some game would support FG and DLSS 2 if it was only SR (even if said SR was v3.7) and "DLSS 3.5" for games with RR.
It's not a very good way to indicate DLSS support as a game supporting DLSS transformer model in SR or RR but not supporting MFG would fall into a grey area which they'd have to call "DLSS 2".
I was saying that they should stop using these version numbers for anything aside from marketing back at DLSS 3 launch, and now it's even worse.

I just tested again with the latest driver and Nvidia App on Dragon Age Veilguard that even if you don't change the in game DLL file Nvidia App override feature can change dll preset. I guess most people think it would work just like this way but I always thought you still needed to change dll file aswell, like traditional mods up to this day. No need to bother with changing DLL files anymore, I think.

So here are 4 screenshots.
First 2 is with the default FG.dll and FG override set as Default and Latest on Nvidia App.
3rd and 4th with the latest FG.dll file and FG override set as Default and Latest on Nvidia App.
1st has lower FPS and higher dedicated VRAM usage, whereas 2nd, 3rd and 4th has higher FPS and lower dedicated VRAM usage.

I used the Nvidia app to update my driver and it freaked me out. It's showing my info about a 4070 ti driver support, and then I looked at the date and it's January ... 2024. The driver version is correct though. Think I'm going to do a clean install lol.

Okay, I did a clean driver install and I still have the same issue in the app, and the DLSS overrides don't show up for games that are supposed to support it. Seems cool.

Edit: Had to go to the game settings and restore driver defaults. Seems to work now.

I don't have many games that support override. I'm assuming the cost of DLSS Super Resolution is fairly static, so I just did a quick test of Path of Exile 2.

RTX3080 with DLSS Performance @1440p:
CNN: 5.46ms frame times ~183 fps
TNN: 6.33ms frame times ~158 fps

That's an additional 0.87ms which isn't too bad unless you're chasing high frame rates. That was a 25 fps hit. I'd say it might look better, but in a game like Path of Exile 2 the performance is more worth it on a 240Hz display. I can't actually see the 25 fps increase, but bigger numbers are always better ;) I'd have to do some real side-by-sides with the image quality to get a better sense of it. I'm sure DLSS Quality would show a bigger difference, but in that case I lose more performance and I'm not super concerned about that in this game. It is a very nice looking game though.

Edit: I found that in Alan Wake 2 it added about 0.75ms at the same settings, so I think ballpark it's probably in that 0.75-8.5ms range on this card. Not bad. I think in Alan Wake 2 I'll care more about the visuals, so it's definitely my choice to use the transformer there.

Smooth Motion will be coming to 40 series in a future update.

UPDATE #2:

NVIDIA told us that support for the RTX40 series GPUs will be coming in a future update.

“NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a brand-new driver technology and requires time for validation and QA across multiple products. Support for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs will be coming in a future update.”

I didn't care much about Blackwell and wasn't planning to upgrade from my 4070. With all the new features and improved DLSS I'm pleasantly surprised that NVIDIA decided to upgrade my 4070 for me :)

Any detailed testing yet on how DLSS 4 performs? Like a big article or video including lots of GPUs and games. Probably not since the app/driver just came out but I dunno if reviewers got their hands on the driver in advance.

From what I remember I think the DF direct mentioned that they could only test with the games that had the new model built in with builds provided to them as there was no override available?

Went to try out DLSS in the finals and it looked awful. Then I realized it is only DLSS 3.7 and it only supports override for Frame Gen :( I guess DLSS won't be updated until they add Reflex 2 support.

This is 1440p DLSS Performance TNN with maxed out settings in Remnant 2. Chainlink fence, overhead lines, leaves on trees in the distance. Actually works very well. Same with the particles moving around the gem. Things definitely alias a little bit in motion, but it's massively better than performance before. I'm impressed.

That's amazing for 720p. Is the ghosting under control?

At 1440p DLSS Performance I think you could reasonably run path tracing on a 4070. Add on FG which I've found works fine at 45-50fps base and you could have a pretty decent experience. Wouldn't be good for competitive shooters but I don't think those games have PT anyway.
