Currently there are UHD BluRay Players on Amazon that are around $330 - $350 price range, so one that can play X360 and XBox One Games for $299 is a good deal.

Did MS just take a page out of Apple's book by adding an S lol.
That's correct. New hardware tech every 4 years or so as innovation in that space makes sense, continually maintaining a 2-3 console overlap in forward compatibility support for games, os, etc. And you'd assume back compat covers more generations. Pretty much just like every mobile and PC platform in the world today.
I was thinking $499 max but it sounds like they are going to "tier" these consoles. I think that may give them more flexibility on pricing than the traditional console generation.
It is a good deal for the approximately 4 people in the known universe that want a UHD Bluray. Seriously, what sort of luddite do you have to be to want a physical video medium?
uhhh...what. the. fuck.
"Games Can perform better on Xbox One S"
http://www.polygon.com/2016/6/13/11927732/xbox-one-s-performance-gears-4
"According to Fergusson, the Xbox One S has additional raw GPU and CPU power compared to the Xbox One, and The Coalition's engineers have been able to take advantage of that to reduce the frequency of frame rate or resolution penalties in more demanding sections of the game."
No specifics given. It's sounds like it might be marginal but a tweet from the author of the article mentions improved hardware:wait what? no way by how much
Boffin dude needs apologies. Sort of.
It's sounds like it could be quite marginal. But Rod Ferguson does mention that's it's both the CPU and GPU that have increased.Well, it begins. Iterative consoles opened this can of worms...how is this any different than the proposed Neo (leaving aside Scorpio as it seems more like a new gen possibly) other than degree and timing?
What the hey, for 299 and with Gamestop giving me some trade in on my old One or whatever, just another reason to get one.
From a technical perspective be really interesting what the changes exactly are. Almost assuredly more clocks but, could they have enabled the redundant CU's as well?
If the S has a a bit more hp bump due to speed increases in cpu and/or gpu, I will get it. Along with UHD blu ray player it's great for $300
