XBox 360 w/ 32" LCD

Windfire

Regular
I plan on getting an Xbox 360 some time in the next few months. The only hurdle is wanting to play games in HD.

I had been considering CRT based HD TV’s but they are bulky and one key issue is that their native resolution is 1080i while most Xbox 360 games will run natively at 720p (although all 360 games can be sent at 1080i).

I’m considering something like this:
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcdtv/n3250w/

32â€￾ Viewsonic with 1366x768 resolution. 8ms response time, has HDMI input, etc. Pretty nice.

Costco is having it on sale on Feb 13th for $799.

I’m looking for some kind of definitive answer as to which is better with the 360: 720p @ 768 resolution or 1080i. And why are 720p TVs running at 768?

good question! probably bigger is better?

my lcd tv is also 1360x768 (remember there is 1360 and 1368 also :) )

My X360 looks incredible on my 57" RPTV (1080i native). I've tried both setting the X360 to 720p output and letting my TV upconvert it to 1080i and setting the X360 to 1080i and letting it upconvert it before sending to the TV. Both do as good a job so I've defaulted to leaving the X360 at 1080i.

Picture quality is fantastic.

Don't fear 1080i sets..... :)

(they are bulkier though...and heavier)

Thanks. I'm sure it looks sweet compared to any of the non-HD we had in the past--that is for sure. However, I'm wondering how a true 720p display compares to a 1080i display.

And of course, I'm wondering how a 720p display looks when the true resolution is 768. Very odd.

Have fun on your 57" :)

i'm currently playin on a lcd screen with my composite cabels. EVERYTHINGis better then that ;)

Thats a great price, so I would go for it, especially if you are moving from SDTV.

Personally, my CRT blows away my LCD in all but one category...I had to find the service menu codes for my CRT to actually adjust the screen. I had noticed that PDZ was cut off on the sides because I couldn't see my ammo. I was actually missing about an inch on the sides (using Perfect Dark Zero as my reference). It is not for the faint of heart to jump into the service menu though, but thats the fix for what I believe is older HDTV CRTs and RPTVs. My LCD instantly had the proper AR with no adjustments other than inconsistent black levels across games. I was constantly adjusting contrast, brightness, and black level for EACH game (I have 20+ games when you include Arcade) that was a PITA and something I did not have to do on my CRT. I have a very low-end LCD TV for the bedroom so that may explain why I had the issues and may explain PQ, but now that my CRT has been adjusted it tops my LCD in every "Picture Quality" category.

Holy crap!

800 for that would be sweet. J&R.com has it for 999, 899 with a 100 dollar rebate offer.

How do you know this will be on sale at Costco? I looked for it on their website and couldn't find it.

We get a mail flyer from Costco that includes a bunch of coupons for things over a period of time. It shows it as $999 warehouse price with $200 off at register for YOUR COST of $799.99 for Feb 20 -26. This particular unit is only available at "Costco Home" stores.
