Xbox 360 and PS3 mean the end of piracy?

MS have said the the xbox 360 is a very secure system. Do you think the modders will finally be defeated this round?

Hahah are you insane? Not a chance in hell. It will probably have far more mods. Last gen was a gen of great new steps in hacking. Now we have FAR more people interested in it.

For games that don't require an internet connection, you're probably right. For the games that do, don't hold your breath.

Here is a thread about TC in general:

The flaw in any system is that you already have a media reader...the console itself. Once you realize that, then you can read any type of media they want to choose. It's simply a matter of defeating the protection scheme then, which can be a mod chip or cheap disc swap. I doubt swap tricks will work this gen, but look at the PSP. Nothing is pirate-proof...nothing. PEACE.

No mention or explanation of security for any of the systems. Maybe obscurity is a good defence?

X360 pirated discs should be available within weeks, or days of the first launch, considering the type of medium it uses. It'll take some time for the pirate rings to adopt BRD mass production lines in their factories that are low-cost and profitable for them. I estimate maybe 2 years - that's also about the same time-span pirated DVDs start appearing in mass numbers.

With every title required to be XBox Live aware, do you think Live might have something to do with attempting to keep the pirates out of the box?

Well there are millions of 56k users like me out there. They will not require an active internet connection to play games.

I said in another thread blue ray will not keep pirates away from the PS3. Since the PS3 can use a hard drive they will go that route. Hell pirates perfer the harddrive you can have a whole library of games and never have to get off the couch.

I am sure both the PS3 and 360 will be cracked the question is how long. There are just to many people out there trying to crack them.

What were the percentage of live users this generation? .. the majority of gamers still do not go online so u can't expect to stem piracy by assuming that everyone will be on live .. or even desire so.

The PSP wasn't really aiming at being "pirate proof" though... It was more aimed at providing a proprietary disk format which wouldn't have burnable media just sitting out there to be used. It's certainly easier to copy through other means than, say, the GameCube (since the PSP has different I/O to run off), but Sony likely doesn't mind if you use MS too much... Chances are they make more money off it! ;)
