X360 up close! pics

aye ther eisn't much of a point to what he is saying

i use wireless keyboard and mouse and i have rechargable batterys . I have a 4 battery recharger and i keep 4 extra charged in addition to the 4 i use . The charger with a 4 pack cost me 30$ and another recharge able 4 pack cost me 10$ . The charge is done in 1 hour . You can buy 15 min chargers now too . So i don't see a big deal. The fact that it will take double aa batteries helps as in the odd case all 4 of your controllers go at the same time u can put in regular batterys till the others change

NiMH batts are so cheap too these days. I got a 4-batt charger and 12-2200mAh NiMH batts for like $30 last year. Should be cheaper for bigger batts these days too. Anyone buying alkalines these days is a sucker or a tourist. :p PEACE.

I would really like the controller if it wasn't for the huge battery pack sticking out of the bottom, it looks so obtrusive. This was a problem with the Wavebird also. I would definitely pay a little extra to have a modern rechargeable battery in the controller that doesn't make it look pregnant.
So you would have to throw away the controller after ~ a year of use because that battery has been worn out?
Also with a replaceable pack you can just switch pack when one of them runs out of juice. I really hope Sony and Nintendo also choose this way of doing it.

I would rather have a compact rechargeable battery like I have in my cell phone. That would provide enough juice, would be replaceable, and you could have more than one if you needed. Look at this Nokia prototype:

Looking at that, I can conceive of no technological barrier that would prevent a wireless controller from being the same size as a Dual-Shock 2. AA size batteries are just not well suited for a controller.

You think so ? cell phones still have limited talk time like around 5 hours . I don't think that would be enough .

They are also expensive . Even a battery like the psp's is 50$

You speak as if the size of the dual shock 2 is good . For many its way to small (like me )

Cell phones use alot of power because they have to drive the antenna and amplify the signal, they also have to power the LCD screen and the speaker and microphone, none of that is neccessary with a controller. Anyway any decent Cell phone battery provides more juice than a pair of AAs. They usually cost between $15-$30 retail, and of course when bought in mass quantities at cost I don't think the cost would be prohibitive to include with a console.

But even the relatively larger X360 controller doesn't have enough space inside to accommodate AA batteries. It's not like with a wireless mouse where you can easily fit them inside. You have to add a big goiter to hold the battery pack, which is less than ideal.

they provide better power at a higher cost . Anyway driving a 2.4ghz connection is going to take alot of power

as for the size from the pictures it doesn't look that big and bulky at all and its on the underside of the controller and its stated that even with them its lighter than a normal controller .

I'm sure there will be those that come out with a cell phone type rechargable battery but really how do you propose we charge them ? That is the question . You can recharge 4 double a batterys in 15 mins with a charger and the charger takes relativly little space (mine is smaller than my cell phone charger ) to charge 4 cell phone packs is a problem . NOt to mention that your screwed if they loose power .

With double aa batterys you get 40 hours out of them and you don't need to use rechargeables if you don't wnat to so there are pros and cons t each side

Anyone got a GI mag in front of them to measure? GI has a different size than other, "normal" mags. I'm trying to see how accurate IGN's dimensions are. Xbox doesn't look that much smaller than Xbox, so I doubt it's as small as the PS2. Which means the PS3 could be a veritable monster...but not in a good way. PEACE.

Anyhow, size of the Mag anyone?
9" x 10-3/4"

I guess that is 10-3/4 on the spine, which if that is the case that would make the Xbox 360 case showed probably close to 11.5" wide. Unless the 9" is the spine side of the mag it looks like the X360, at least this demo shell, is bigger than the IGN info.

But if the 9" is the spine then 10.5" is dead on.

Either way it looks small enough to me. Not a GCN, but it has smooth lines and is smaller than the Xbox. I could live with that sitting next to my monitors.

There are still some reasons to buy alkalines. Rechargeable AA's don't maintain their peak power as long as alkalines and this matters with some devices. I've always liked using rechargeables. Especially because my dad used to work at a factory where they were made and would bring home batteries that "failed testing". The current NiMh batteries are better than the old NiCads I used to get.

What's all this fuss with a harmless little bulge? The Wavebired has a bigger bulge than this controller and it's hardly an issue. 2400mAh MiMH AAs also have about twice the capacity of AA alkalines. ;)

Yes, the 10-3/4" figure is along-the-spine/vertical/top-to-bottom/however you want to put it. :p GI is a little bit wider than most mags, but I don't think I've run across too many monthly periodicals that are wider than they are tall. ;)

I actually don't really like either of the designs that much. The xbox360 looks way too much like a PC. It has all the qualities of the old school beige/gray cases with the creative expression of dell's corporate line workstations.

The only thing I really like about the PS3's design is the shiny black finish, and I tend to think it'd be covered in finger prints after a week. Otherwise, the shape somehow feels reminiscent of something from the 1980s. I wouldn't be suprised to find a 6502 underneath the hood in all it's 8bit glory.

Don't even get me started on the controller.

As for the revolution, I think the fact people are praising a small black rectangular box for it's quality asthetics speaks more about the other two consoles than it does about itself.

The xbox 360 doesn't look like a PC to me at all.
I don't know where you got that from.

The PS3 looks larger than Xbox and it looks like a George Foreman Grill.

I really want to buy a PS3, but I don't own a PSone or PS2 and don't have any games and I already have xbox games.

However, the controller for the PS3 looks unusable and the system makes Xbox 1 look small and I have a one bedroom apartment in LA and I don't have that much room for both.
