X360 up close! pics

I would really like the controller if it wasn't for the huge battery pack sticking out of the bottom, it looks so obtrusive. This was a problem with the Wavebird also. I would definitely pay a little extra to have a modern rechargeable battery in the controller that doesn't make it look pregnant.

I may be in the minority on this but ... I really DONT like the matte plastic finish of the x360... it is TOO dreamcast like... Though i dont necessarily want it to be a hifi appliance... it should still look high end... I would probabaly get either or black or some other metallic custom face plate to replace the front when available

I cant say anything about the controllers as they look great...

I personally think the ID of the PS3 blows it away... good thing the internal hardware is a beast

Strangely my opinion is changing the other way. I was pretty ho-hum about the Xbox360 design when I first saw it, but it's grown on me. The PS3 design has gone the opposite way, especially after seeing the box from some new angles (like the picture in this threa :http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23162&highlight=) where I think it looks very mediocre. The black version looks the best of the bunch though.

I agree. The PS3 is rather cheesy looking from some angles. The black version is by far the best though.

I'd prefer an XB360 that looks more like my existing CE equipment (silver or black finish). The white box is ugly and stands out too much. Face plates don't help.

So you would have to throw away the controller after ~ a year of use because that battery has been worn out?
Also with a replaceable pack you can just switch pack when one of them runs out of juice. I really hope Sony and Nintendo also choose this way of doing it.

What?! It's based on IR technologi?! That means the controller has to be visible or at least indirectly visible. Stupid choice IMO.

you talking about the xbox360 I thought they were using RF @ 2.4ghz

if your taling about the black part at the top it kinda looks like the plug for the old memory cards

Have you set your screen to very low contrast/brightness? That's supposed to be a connector for a USB cable for battery-less/recharging operation of the controller.

Actually, according to the article, Microsoft isn't saying what that connector is for.

The top of the controller also features a new connector, once again one that Microsoft is being very quiet about.

Well, they have said you can hook up the controller to USB, and it's pretty obvious that cable will be attached to the front of the controller...

I think i have a new cash stream. My spray set up is perfect for this kind of aftermarket . Ill paint your Xbox360 any color. No chipping . just send your console to my workshop.

Yeah  I'm not using my usual screen so I didn't notice.

But how can the batteries recharge if it's been said that the controller takes AA batteries? I'm kinda curious about this myself.
Companies make rechargeable AA batteries, plus there's the battery pack accessory that was mentioned already.

I actually don't really like either of the designs that much. The xbox360 looks way too much like a PC. It has all the qualities of the old school beige/gray cases with the creative expression of dell's corporate line workstations.

The only thing I really like about the PS3's design is the shiny black finish, and I tend to think it'd be covered in finger prints after a week. Otherwise, the shape somehow feels reminiscent of something from the 1980s. I wouldn't be suprised to find a 6502 underneath the hood in all it's 8bit glory.

Don't even get me started on the controller.

As for the revolution, I think the fact people are praising a small black rectangular box for it's quality asthetics speaks more about the other two consoles than it does about itself.

I like the PS3 design the best, unless it's as big as it looked when KK was holding it. Then again, the PS2 was a design that grew on me, so maybe it's just b/c I'm well attuned to that shape now. Oh yeah, slot drives rock. :D The X360 design is second-best IMO, although I hate the finish on the drive. I think it should match the rest of the casing, but I guess that would have looked dumb with the faceplates. Personally, I'd like to see swappable drive covers too. Should be pretty simple to so. The Rev design is so meh. It's pretty much the NES shape with a few alterations. The NES was just a friggin box. Pretty uninspired IMO, although I'll wait for the final revision before casting my final derisions. :p PEACE.

I don't like the diffrent layers of the ps3 . Its what i didn't like about hte ps2 (and the ugly front thing) I lay my consoles down in my av rack and see the front . So for me the x360 is the best looking one . If i can get me a silver front plate then it would match everything

Not all AA batteries are rechargeable.
