X360 Controllers will work on your PC as well!

The standard X360 Controller will plug into your PC via USB port, and drivers can be downloaded. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. This is great for me, as I've always kinda wanted a good PC controller, yet never wanted to cough up the cash.

I know they announced the windows version sometime back, but this is the first confirmation I've seen that the standard X360 is plug & play compatible with Windows XP.

The Xbox 360 Controller for Windows works with Windows XP-based PCs and the Xbox 360 system, with a comfortable, enhanced ergonomic design, force feedback vibration support and a familiar button layout across both platforms.

“For the first time, gamers can simply unplug their controller from their Xbox 360 system and plug it into their Windows XP-based PC,â€￾ said Mike Haigh, Hardware Product Marketing Manager. “This is a great breakthrough for the gaming industry as we make it easier for developers to create multiplatform titles.â€￾

The "Xbox 360 controller for Windows" nametag kills me. :p

Anyway, these things are available now. There are not a ton of them, but they are out there.

C'mon, this is old old old - even last year they were talking about the the 360 usb controller being useable with a Windows PC. ;)

I do agree it's cool though. I've been wondering in the past whether or not controller/game pad support will now become a rather common feature for PC games in the Vista era.

**PR Warning**

The above statement is factually correct, but only because he specified a Windows XP based PC. The Nvidia NV1 was a PC card with a Sega Saturn compatible controller port that worked on Windows based PC's of the time.

Cool, so I guess that means they have standard USB connectors at the end there. Although I kinda liked that the original Xbox end connectors are bulky and hence less prone to being damaged with that shell on it.

I wonder if there is a way to get it working with older games like... Splinter Cell 1-3. That'd be great.

You're being unfair. That statement is 100% true without any histroical overlap with similar technologies.

Quite literally, this is the first time, ever, in the WHOLE HISTORY OF HUMANITY, that you can unplug your controller from your XB360 and plug it into your Windows XP-based PC.

:D

Dredging through my hazy memory (yes, I had NV1 / Diamond Edge 3D 2200) the Saturn controller only worked with games that were specifically coded for it (i.e. the Sega games), there wasn't a common interface at that time.
