Witcher 2

By the way, is anyone else bothered by the dithering on the shadows? Particularly on faces and other flesh, it is pretty noticeable to me, no matter if shadows are low or ultra quality. Disabling SSAO also doesn't help here.

I'm playing about 12 feet from a 65 inch tv so they don't really bug me, I imagine they would be more noticeable playing at a desk though. Still the game looks fantastic, better than crysis 2, i find myself sometimes just stopping and staring.

Just tried a side quest that I so can't do lol , where you have to kill the endraga queen , I can't even put a dent in her. I guess no enemy level scaling in this game so I'll revisit that quest in 5 more levels.

Trying to decide now which ability tree to go with...

Few ubersampled screenes from beginning of Witcher 2:

In motion it looks amazing, all this little people working around machines!

Just before impact.

BTW these screens are taken using Steam so they are a bit blurred by JPEG compession. In game it takes your breath!

All these were taken on my HD6970 + Phenom X6 @3.4GHz.
Frame rate between 15FPS and 30FPS but average I would say 20FPS. You can play like that but it's not a good experience. Once CF/SLI profile is created, owners of HD6990 and GTX590 should be able to enjoy Ubersampling in 1920x1200 :devilish:

Ubersampling should help with the dithered shadows right?

Hmm no the issue is visible regardless of whether ubersampling is on or not. I'm playing on a 27 inch 1080p monitor so dpi is pretty low, probably more noticeable on this screen than on most.

Still, I'm wondering if everyone is having these dithered shadows or if it might be an Nvidia/driver thing.

Fortunately it doesn't prevent the game from being drop dead gorgeous in places.

Awesome screenshots! Thanks for that. I am replaying Witcher 1 as we speak. I have a feeling that by the time I get done with Witcher 1 (may be a month or two) then the Witcher 2 game will have almost everything ironed out. The devs seem to be pretty proactive with getting fixes out and so on so forth.

the second shot is far too unrealistic, the env mappimg on the armour is all wrong

Besides, motion blur looks crap :>

Couple more screens but without Ubersampling (at least gives me 30-80FPS):

Other than graphics this game also has great humor and story. I laughted my ass after listening to some of NPC's conversations :D.
Fighting is demanding but once adjusted to it, rewarding. It's important to par, hit, duck and use signs. But when done right, enemies seem to fall one by one very quickly ;).

While I still think the game needed a few more months in the oven, it's starting to really gel with me. I'm certainly loving the graphics, and I'm slowly getting the hang of combat. I am, however, a total idiot, I assumed that the push/stun sign is the only one available since the other trees were locked out until 7th level, so I never tried changing signs. Sigh. Would've made that monastery fight against the 6 enemies a lot easier.

LOL! If you beat them using ony Arad sign then you deserve a medal! I'm mixing signs like crazy, trap, stun, fire are very common in fight for me. Not sure how the mind control works in fight yet, coz it seems not to do any harm to opponents :???:.

I don't know. I knocked my head against that wall for a good long time and what signs I was trying to use rarely made a difference. Only got by by potioning up, throwing bombs, running away and getting lucky with a couple quick kills on stunned enemies early on.

there is no 4:3/5:4 screen format support :???:

very disappointing for a "PC game", most of the "console ports" still support 4:3/5:4

I understand that in the cut scenes using letterbox and the original format is the optimal configuration, but apart from that... I'm losing a lot of my screen and the UI is just to small...
(using a 17" 5:4 screen)

performance is not a problem here, 720p, textures on maximum settings, bloom and vignette on, shadow medium... the CPU is a e5400 at 3.45ghz, VGA a 5750.

Davros, the same people who made the save game menu and the inventory menu (which makes a good try at making ME1 look good). People too much into a console mindset to make the right decisions for a PC game ...

John, I hated it doing it ... but it was nice when I got it. It doesn't really require good timing (at least not with Quen) or a lot of time after that. I repeated it a couple times to see if I couldn't talk the sorceress into bed ... and I couldn't :(
