Witcher 2

Today's Pelit-magazine (largest Nordic gaming magazine) had a review of Witcher 2 and the game (PC-version) scored 93 points. The 17th of May can't be here soon enough!

Thanks for link!

I like this part :smile:

The Witcher 2 is a big game no matter how you play through it,” he said. “Some of our locations are so detailed that we’ve seen quite a few instances where beta testers got lost in them. On average the main storyline walkthrough takes around 40 hours.

Other important info is that editor is coming so the modding community will be able to impress us mere mortals with their skills.

Any highlights you could share with us?

Not much but here are couple:
-The game lives up to all the hype.
-It is atmospheric, violent and sexy.
-The beta version had multiple bugs, though no game stoppers.

I skipped 97% of the review because I didn't want to be spoiled :)

I want to buy this but I can't buy pc games anymore at launch.

I got portal 2 last week for $20 bucks at bestbuy. I got crysis 2 for $30 bucks by waiting two months and i got mass effect 2 for $10.

I just can't buy them at launch anymore , in a few weeks or months they will just drop to drasticly in price to make it worth it .

Same here. Thats the reason I still haven't got Portal 2 or Crysis 2 or Brink ! I just wait till the price drops, otherwise , sometimes, the money feels wasted as games these days seem to cater to the casual audience most of all and $60 for something so weak don't seem justified. Witcher 2 seems different though and I might give in sooner :) !

although its strange that modern warfare 2 hasnt dropped in price (at least in my local brick and mortar shops)

Cos they aren't worth buying anyway :D !

Thats a policy they have been following with all CODs since COD4. They are priced higher than the other games, and prices are not reduced.

game breaks 100k pre-orders already.. according to gry-online.pl actual numbers are 111.842..

"This is extremely good result, which gives strong grounds for believing that planned the premiere issue of 1 million copies is exhausted earlier than expected" - said Adam Kicinski, President of Optimus SA. So a lot of interest certainly is encouraging for the future, and the game might have the even greater success than its predecessor, which sold more than 1.7 million copies .

~~~~~~
Another Polish interview here (translated). It mentions:
- Pre-orders amount to 111,000 so far.
- Pre-order numbers are very good, better than expected, world's biggest games' pre-order numbers generally are 200-300,000, and that's on 3 platforms, The Witcher 2 is only on PC, for now.
- They'll need to get additional copies out to satisfy demand.
- Projected financial results from DM BZ WBK for the year are hoped to reach a revenue of 197.8 mln zł, a net profit of 55.2 mln zł - ed) are "ambitious, but within reach."
- We have created, "The Witcher" from the outset with the idea that he will have many parts. So I'm confident about is that in the future, players will have subsequent episodes of the saga.
- Discussed the creation of a second title, which will fill the gap between successive "witchers" and further stabilize our results. It can be assumed that it will also be multi-sectional saga for long-term profits,.
- We want GOG to double sales next year (in 2010 amounted to 9.36 mln zł - ed.) This will be achieved through collaborating with the next two or three major producers.
- Intend to expand price segments GOG. We believe that Gog.com may be the second, to Steam, who is leading the world's largest distributor of computer games in electronic form.
thanks to Mincs from neogaf forums..
This game is going to bury my GPU. In fact, the exact model is the recommended spec, which probably isn't good.
I purchased my copy from GOG yesterday and downloaded the 9 gb of stuff. I am quite genuinely excited by this game. I know I am breaking my rule of buying games the day get released especially in terms of price being high and also the bugs being quite pronounced and we have to act as beta testers and so on so forth. But it seems to me this game is worth it what with the lack of DRM and the huge worlds to explore and the awesome graphics. I am wondering if my current rig will play the game maxed out at 2560 x 1600 or not without any overclocking....
various performance numbers from several sites
Very impressed by the graphics: Bright, juicy picture, large-scale battles and, in doing 1920x1200 Ultra does not slow down completely ( i5-760/4GB/GeForce 460)
I tested the game on a machine equipped with Windows 7, so any performance must be taken in the large parentheses, because optimization of the OS was still in progress, when szykowano build.Biorąc demonstration of the foregoing, paradoxically, I am full of optimism, because the game at high settings remained framerate 19-18, 19-22 FPS on a machine equipped with a graphics card GeForce 9800 GT from Asus, CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 and 4 giga RAM, which is slightly on the equipment podstarzałym.
Test systems (@1080p):
C2D E6750 (2 cores, 2.6Ghz) + 4870 = low end system
X4 955 (4 cores, 3.2Ghz) + 6580 = mid range system
i7 2600k (4 cores, 3.4Ghz) + GTX 570 = high end system
Results:
C2D E6750 + 4870 = Play on low, or reduce to 720p on medium
X4 955 + 6850 = no difficulty @ High, Ultra a bit jerkier.
i7 2600k + GTX 570 = completely smooth @ Ultra, beyond all doubt
??? + 6970 = completely smooth @ Ultra, beyond all doubt
and remind you at same day witcher 2 comes nvidia will release new GTX 560 so any 6850/460 level cards should be enough for graphics me thinks :)
Bleh, another title waiting on my list for the next build.
If an i5-760/4GB/GeForce 460 setup can play the game at 1920 x 1200 I think my i7 930 and 2 x 285 gtx oc in sli should handle it at 2560 x 1600 though I am not sure about Ultra...
