Windows tablets

no, this is the first time they are being shown to the public , even the surface wasn't allowed to be touched at the surface press event.

We wont see numbers until late october. I wouldn't think that battery life will be diffrent compared to the same hardware running andriod .

I meant the intel/Pro ones...more interesting IMHO

yea , no info yet really. I would expect it to fall in line with ultra books. Most likely a bit better power than a similar ultra book.

The surface pro will most likely have 6-8 hours of battery. 8 or so surfing the web , 6 for video playback and most likely 4 for gaming.

Bleh, I hope someone releases at a minimum a 16:10 slate and even better would be a 4:3 slate for my use. I absolutely hate the 16:9 form factor of my current slate.

All the resolutions appear to be the same, with a few exceptions here and there.

That is pretty much the situation with Windows laptops.

On a 10inch screen 1080p is fine with me. I don't see the point of ever higher pixels just for the sake of higher amounts of pixels. The cpu/gpu inside the windows 8 verisons wont drive higher resolutions well.

What makes you say that? A 2012 MacBook Air (Intel HD 4000) is able to drive several Thunderbolt displays just fine in addition to the internal screen (2560x1440 *2 + 1366x768). Just don't expect to game on it.

Eh? Resolution has nothing to do with the screen ratio.

I'd be eminently happy with a 1600x1200 slate. Less resolution than a 1080p slate but a far more useable screen ratio for actual work.

Hell, I'd prefer 1680x1050 (16:10) over 1920x1080 (16:9).

1920x1200 versus 1600x1200? I'd take the 1600x1200 everytime for a slate device. And I'd certainly take both of those before a 1080p device.

My covertable tablet (laptop with a swivel screen) is a 4:3 1024x768 is great. But the 768is just too narrow when in portrait orientation for anything useful.

I'm just waiting for one of the OEMs to eventually offer one.

Media consumption is secondary to me for a slate device. Ability to actually do work combined with portability comes first. Media consumption second.

It would make little sense for MS to launch such a huge project and part of thier future two months before haswell comes out. For that matter why would MS be delaying launch for 90 days if they are just going with ivy bridge , where is the advantage or reason for not launching in october ?

Haswell ULV isn't in March. It's said to be in Q3, so that makes it 6-8 months away from Surface launch. And Q4 is the launch schedule for touch-enabled refresh on Ultrabooks. Yes, Surface is later than expected, but that's more likely due to MS taking time(doing whatever needed).

Where did you read that ?

Latest info puts Haswell in Q2

Also haswell will have a 10W TDP on the ULV

We will apparently find out more on the 11th through 13th

They claim at least one version among the ULV variants will be 10W ;) As you say, we'll have to wait one more week to get more information, but I guess the GPU will be severely castrated and the frequency rather low.

well amazon disapointed. Their 8.9 inch 1920x1200 tablet with 16 gigs is $300 .

They claim they have 22% of the tablet market with the fire , if thats true then this lack luster launch really opens the door to the surface esp if the $200-$300 rumor is correct

Disappointed?

AMZN reached an all time high as they were doing their briefing.

We'll have to wait for reviews and see what their sales look like, especially after Xmas.

I think Apple may have a hard time if they come out with the rumored iPad Mini at anything over $250 for a 7.85 inch, 1024x768, 16 GB tablet.
