Since ps3 will be backwards compatible , did they anounce something like this?
will ps1 games be available on the sony "network for download?"

i would be happy to buy some old but cool ps1 games like
castlevania symphony of the night (i sold that game a few months ago , stupid i was...) and final fantasy games for example ? or maybe riiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge raceeeeeeeeer

If the psp has no problem with it, dont see any reason why it wouldnt be possible on the ps3.
Only problem would be to port the code over. If its not available at launch, I'm sure it could be done via firmware updates.

Don't know, but PS1 games for PSP should be available and accessible from tha PSP.

It would be dumb for Sony not to put the best of them on the PS3 marketplace too.
I'd like to play Vib Ribbon (was that a PSOne game?) as I never managed to get my hands on one, but that would be even cooler on teh PSP with my own MP3's on Memory Stick.

Addition to that, I wouldnt mind seeing some psp titles being available if possible. (they couldnt look much worse than a ps1 title if you think about it)

psp titles on ps3 downloads.. hm wouldnt that kill the psp market share ?

after all. ps1 games are sort of free for sony (well not quite off course, but you get the point)

That would be just too confusing, if the marketplace had PSP games that were ported over to PS3, PSOne games that were ported over to PSP and PS3, PS2 games that were ported over to PS3, native PS3 games and native PSP games.

Sorry to sound a bit confused, but if Sony makes PS1 games available for download, what's stopping them from changing the application to make sure that it's 100% compatible with PS3? That way backwards compatibility would be ensured to work properly.

Nothing, but that would do little to the PS1 games you already own on a CD.
The PSP PSOne downloads are to be recoded I tink, you won't be able to put a PSOne CD in your PS3 and transfer it to the PSP and be playable.

I believe Sony have announced an intention to provide older games as downloads including PS1 and PS2. The latter will likely want more storage than at present though

I think, maybe, something along these lines:

Available for optical medium based play on PS3:
  • PS1
  • PS2
  • PS3
Available for download and play on PS3:
  • Homebrew
  • Small Flash/Java Based Games
  • PSOne Games
  • Ported Classics (similiar to Nin's Virtual Console)
Available for download to be transferred and played on the PSP
  • PS1 Games
  • PSP Games
  • PS3 Mini-games (downloaded from the game's BD)

If PSP is to play these minigames, they'll really need to refine it's Flash support. Flash is painfully slow on PSP for anything other than website anims.

For the types of mini-games I'm referring to, I wouldn't see a need for Flash support at all. I'm referring to games with a proper (albeit limited) 3-D engine. For example, take the Gym mini-games in GTA:SA. Something like that would be perfect for portable play, and have a meaningful contribution to the core game. Better still, something like the Hot Coff… oh forget it. :D

Yeah you may be right, dunno why i did not think of that. But what if you could play the psp game on both the ps3 and psp?
